Repost..Can you help??
Would anyone care to help???
This is so sad and awful. I know what a bunch of caring and generous people share this community and I just thought maybe we could help out these teachers, parents and children in any small way possible.
Here is a letter from my friend Ronni, who is the President of the PTA..
Hello, My name is Ronni Walsh and I live in East Brunswick, NJ. I have four children. Two of my children currently attend Memorial Elementary School in East Brunswick, NJ. I am writing to you today to let you know about an unfortunate situation. On July 10, 2008 our town's Memorial Elementary School caught fire and sustained catastrophic damage. In fact one of my children just completed fifth grade in the classroom that the fire started in. We are thankful that this fire did not start during an active school day. The Emergency Management Team of our community has informed us that our school needs to be replaced. For an indefinite amount of time our children have to be placed in portable classrooms outside of other functioning elementary schools because there is no room for them. This will be difficult but our community is prepared to face this obstacle as well as others. The teachers' of Memorial School are dedicated and committed to our children. We knew that before this unfortunate fire. The parents want to now show their commitment in helping them to replace their personal teaching aides. I am sure I don't have to tell you how devastating it must be to know that all of the things you have lovingly collected for your students, perhaps for many years, was burned in 20 short minutes. During this year my son celebrated with his class and teacher her milestone of collecting 2500 books. All of these books were lost in the fire. We are coming together as a community and parents want to help these teachers replace those things that are not covered by insurance. We are going to collect cans, have lemon aide stands, as well as garage sales. With the start of school just five weeks away, the challenge before us is great. Our children are our concern and it is this concern that has given me the courage to contact our parents and teachers to ask for any help they can possibly give us. The help can be as little as one book or a box of pencils. It is a wonderful way to show the children in your school how we can come together for other schools and help other teachers and children across the country. We understand that these are hard and difficult economic times, but we are hoping you will understand that what drives us is our children and the high regard we have for the dedicated teachers in our Memorial School. If you would like to read about our Memorial School and the fire, please visit ebnet.org. Thank you for your time and consideration. I wish you a wonderful summer and a successful school year.
Respectfully, Ronni Walsh Parent of Memorial SchoolEast Brunswick, NJ 08816
