Cruise Value Center!! We use Barbara David. They are based out of NJ, but we do the planning over the phone- they always have the best prices. HTHChat Icon

I use 5ofclubsChat Icon It is soo easy to do it by yourself. I found much better deals then a travel agent. In my opinion and sorry travel agents but they are just not needed as much anymore.

If you go on cruisecritic.com or other sites, you can find out all the info you need. What are of the ship is best, what room cat, etc.

Generally I would agree with you, but she was able to get us a flat rate that included all of the fuel surcharges that went into effect for cheaper than anything I found online - and I searched for days!! She then called me back two days later and got us upgraded from the lowest of the low deck to deck 10 for the same exact price. I was happy and in this case it actually was worth it to me to have an agent.

The cruiseline itself upgrades a lot if there is room. And if you sailed before a certain date you were refunded the fuel surcharge.

And also, the fuel charge isn't that much so I know for our family friend who is a travel agent, they sometimes eat certain fees just to get the sale. Not saying that this is what happened though.

Try both ways and see what you get. Good Luck either wayChat Icon

Thanks ladies!! I just went to Liberty Travel and I got the same price as I did from Expedia. Her flights were a bit cheaper, but not a huge savings.

Re: Travel agent specializing in cruises?

Do they have to be a brick and mortar TA? My family and I use bestpricecruises.com My parents have booked about 24 cruises with them and I have booked about 4. Several of my friends have used them too. I find that our local TAs can't beat their prices (of course you should always shop around) but the internet places (the big ones) buy rooms in bulk so you get a better rate from some of them that way.

BTW in most circumstances you are better to do air yourself and NOT thru the TA. Cruise air is usually more expensive (and from learning the hard way) they often split families up (this happened to my family a few times so we learned to book together) even when we booked well in advance. The only advantage of booking air thru the cruiseline (which is what they will usually give you when you book it all thru the TA bestpricecruises would always tell me to book it myself and save the money) is that IF you fly in the day of the cruise and it is cruise flight - the cruiseline will either hold the ship (depending on how many are on that flight) or help you to get to the next logical port of call (which btw might not be the next port your ship goes to - it is the next one they can get you on an actually flight so it could be your second port of call).

Also try cruisecompete You can see what those places quote you and try to get a TA locally to beat or match it if you aren't comfortable with internet booking.

I agree 100% - we booked two cruises through her and she beat all prices I found - both online and through other agents.

Re: Travel agent specializing in cruises?

We have booked all our cruises through CruiseOne - although the agent we use is upstate. (That's where DH's aunt lives and we all go together.)
