Shea Stadium Seat Sale
I'm sure that everyone has heard that seats at Shea Stadium are going on sale on 8/25 for $869 a pair. Now, my understanding of a seat is where your arse goes and it has a back. At least for $869 that's what you should get. From the press release from the Mets website, the seat backs will go on sale later on in the year, along with other items. So if anyone is interested in getting a pair of seats on 8/25, take note that your only getting the part your butt touches.
FLUSHING -- The New York Mets and Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg today announced that the sale of Shea Stadium seat pairs will begin Monday, Aug. 25 at 9 a.m. exclusively online at Mets.com/Shea. Fans and collectors worldwide will be able to purchase orange, blue, green, and red seats for $869 per pair. The limited inventory of seats will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Each seat pair will be authenticated by Major League Baseball's Authentication Program and affixed with a tamper-proof hologram displaying a unique identification number.
Mets season ticket holders will have the opportunity to purchase their particular seats before the Aug. 25 general public sale. The sale of other Shea memorabilia on Mets.com/Shea will expand to include seat backs and 45-inch sections of bench seating from Shea's Left Field Picnic Area. Details regarding the sale of additional memorabilia will be announced later this season.

i know you have to buy them by the pair, and there will be a arm rest only in the middle.
we are still debating if we are getting them.. we were going to put them on our pool deck

Scraped some orange paint off the railing last game we went to in July. That's good enough for me and it was free.
I did the same last month at Yankee Stadium (Blue Paint). I would think that buying the seats from either stadium would be fun for like a week. You'd show everyone and then never sit in them.

im sure you didnt have to do much scraping,, that stadium is falling apart on its own

nope. easy as pie. got a good sized piece too, about the size of a quarter.

a friend of ours has seats from yankee stadium and although no one sits on them...they just look sooo cool!! he has them w/all of his yankee memorablilia ( he has a lot of stuff!!)

Really?? you only get the bottom part and not the seat back? WOW.
We have been debating what we're going to do.. DH really really really wants them, but we're redoing our kitchen and $869 is just not anywhere in our budget.
When we were at the stadium last weekend we noticed something else also - all of the seat legs in the loge and upperdeck curve backwards and are attached to the concrete riser behind the seat, not the concrete floor that is actually under the seat. So we were wondering how the seats would actually stand up when they're dismantled. They don't actually have legs that go to the ground..
Anyone notice this?
