BF question....

For those pregnant with twins, do you still plan to breastfeed? I really don't want to use formula at all, but don't know how to manage with twins.....dumb question, but do they both BF at the same time, or do you BF one at a time? Don't laugh at me! Chat Icon

ebfing twins is absolutely possible and managable, not to mention amazing!!

i recommend getting some good books and reading up before the babies come.

my two favorites are:

nursing twins

nursing "bible"

i think it's best to learn how to tandem nurse as soon as possible and get them use to nursing together. there are times here and there, that you nurse separately, but overall it's best to do it together or else you will feel like you are nursing nonstop.

imo, the keys to success are:

a good lactation consultant/nurse that will teach you how to latch them on together.

a supportive partner that will allow you to just focus on breastfeeding. that should be your number one job in the beginning, along with resting and eating healthy. EVERYTHING else should fall to your support system, including all the diaper changes and including getting up and down to bring the babies to you.

the will to keep at it. there are going to be times in the beginning when you think, "i can't do this!" if you just hold out a little longer, i promise it will get easier.

please feel free to fm me anytime with specific questions. good luck!!!!!

Re: BF question....

Yes, I plan on it, and from the research I have been doing it is possible and best to feed them both at the same time, otherwise you will be feeding ALL the time.
I also plan on pumping so DH can help with feedings and get some bonding time.

Re: BF question....

Hi, I hope it is ok that I post this - I am not a mom yet but there are several sets of twins in my family and I know my SIL nursed the twins-especially my nephew due to his milk/dairy allergy. I give her so much credit. There was a special pillow like a boppy that she bought to help balance them. Congratulations !!!!
