TEACHING JOBS OUT OF STATE
Has anyone on here taught out of state? I'm seriously considering this. If so, where did you teach and how did you like it?

I didn't, but when I was in college in PA, the school districts in Northern Va were always recruiting on campus. many of my friends teach down there now. Also, in Maryland. I would look into something down there if it's not too far. Also, the Carolinas are always hiring. they like the teacher prep. programs "up North" and a lot of NY'ers get jovs down there.

I am in southern CT in an inner city school...I student taught in a suburban school...I see the advantages and disadvantages of both. I love my school and the people I work with. I love living in CT although I don't know if DH and I will be here forever...
If you are willing to go to an inner city, it will be easier and quicker to find a position depending on your subject of course... it takes a little longer in a suburban school, but still not impossible!

it might be, but they may have last minute openings. who knows? it's worth a shot. i know there are some girls on here that teach down there, so hoepfully they will see this thread

I currently teach in NC. We haven't started yet--our teacher workdays start this coming Monday and the kids come back on 8/25. Definitely not too late, some schools are still looking for people!

well, I assume you need a CT teaching certificate... but you can work under a DSAP (durational shortage permit) while you are taking care of the necessary steps...it is probably quite similar to NY- but I am not sure, something to look into. Some school districts wont hire under a DSAP because they don't have a shortage, but inner city schools surely will...

Not too late at all!!! i taught in NC for 2 years before moving back to NY!! School starts the 26th there BUT thet do a lot of their hiring 10 days after the start of school when they have all their numbers! They are very transient- students switching schools a gazillion times, teachers coming and going- you should have NO PROBLEMS!!

ITA with this- I teach in Raleigh, and the after the 10th day of school, it is not unusual at all for them to open up new sections and hire a teacher or two in my school. Sometimes we have qualified for another teacher, but since there was no classroom, they were hired to float in a grade level and pull groups. That's an ideal first year position for someone coming in and learning the curriculum.

We start school on 9/2
I also teach in VA, same county as Deb. I love it. I also taught in Maryland. I didn't have to do anything for certicfication either, both counties I worked for got my certification for that state no extra tests!!. I am now certified in NY, MD, and VA
