Websites for flights

When do the airlines reset their prices on flights? I found my fight was cheaper by going directly to the airline website but...

Yesterday in the morning I was looking to book a flight to Wilmington NC for my cousins wedding. I had $129 neach way. Of course I didn't book it right at that minute due to the kids and of course the million issues that came up right at that moment.

I went back last night and the returning flight went up to $169. I figured because it was late in the day. I tried again this morning and the price is the same.

Do you think I have any chance of getting the original price back? I am the only one oing as we can't afford for all of us to fly down there and I'm not about to put my kids in a car and drive there for the weekend.

In short, probably not. Pricing for airline tickets is strange. It's almost like asking if a certain stock price is going to go up or down tomorrow. Pricing depends on demand, fuel prices, what other airlines are doing on the same route and the will of the airline itself.

ETA: We recently bought tickets to for a trip to Asia this spring and the cost went up 100 bucks per ticket over night. Nothing else as far as we could tell had changed. It sucks but what can you do?

I used a farewatcher at Kayak.com for a trip I am taking in November. I received an email everyday with price changes. I always hear that prices go down a bit mid-week and spike over the weekend. So you may have a chance of doing better then $169.
