Salem, Mass...
Has anyone been? What have you thought? I love old, historic towns and while I know going to Salem is a bit cliche around this time of the year, I still would love to go. Just looking for some feedback. TIA!

Re: Salem, Mass...
we went last october, mid-month - for our 1 year anniversary. dh is a history buff, me-not so much but i am fascinated with the witch trials etc for some reason. i absolutely loved it, we both did. i think we stayed for 2 or 3 nights in the salem inn, a bed and breakfast.

Re: Salem, Mass...
I went on a weekend tour up there years ago for halloween! It was so much fun, interesting, informative. We saw a performance of the Crucible, mock with trials, went to the House of Seven Gables, a withc dungeon and a few other places I don't recall. I'd like to go back again.

I just booked a getaway there in Oct! We are staying at the Salem Waterfront Hotel. I went many years ago on Halloween and it was amazing.

Re: Salem, Mass...
I've been a couple of times. it's fun...it has definitely become more touristy...I noted a pretty big difference betwee the last 2 times I went..
that said, the walk is fun, as are some of the museums. the grave sites of the murdered are eery and sad...it's made light of now but the enormity of what we as people can do to each other.....you can feel it see it if you try hard enough.
we drove up to Glouchester after and had some great fish and lobster...and went for a (COLD!) swim at the singing beach.
I would go again too. I love New England towns.

Re: Salem, Mass...
I went as a day trip from Providence & was pleasently surprised. The witch muesuems are a little cheezy, but I did learn a little about the withc trials and there is a really interesting museum there, that isn't really about witches at all, the Peabody Essex MuseumThe town is also just cute & on the water.

Re: Salem, Mass...
My cousins like to go every other year. I have been there 2 times. We usually stay in a hotel about 15 minutes outside of the town of Salem...less expensive. If you do that make sure you go into town in the earlier part of the day so you can find a spot to park in the parking garage or the lot down on the wharf.
Lots of cool shops, haunted houses, the House of Seven Gables, the Witch Museums, I like the walking tour at night...you walk holding a candle or lanturn and the tour guide tells you all sorts of stories about what happened at this spot and what was rumored to happen at that spot.
Some of it is cheezy but I love going to Salem. If it wasn't for my brother's wedding in October we would have gone this year!!
