Cruise experts needed: Picking someone up from a cruise question...

The itinerary for my parents cruise says arrival into Baltimore (where i live) 8am on Saturday.

What time should I plan on picking them up?

I havent been on a cruise in years. I know they let people off in "batches"

Does 8am mean the boat arrives? Does that mean the first group gets off at 8am? The boat is totally empty by 8am?

It's NCL if that helps.

the boat will arrive anywhere between 7 and 8 am

if they don't carry their bags off themselves, they should be off between 9:30 and 10:30

do they have a cell phone to call you?

That definitely helps. They have a cell phone, I just wasn't sure when they'd get service.

I live only 15-20 minutes from the port. Maybe I should leave them a voicemail saying to call me when they get in.

On the cruise I took, we got our departure group and time the night before. That should give you a better idea of when they are getting off the boat.

I have picked up my family from NJ bayonne before - it is hard to say - b.c they doc at one time (could be early - occasionally late) then they let people off by color or number groups - usually those with earliest flights get off first, followed by tours and those who drove or don't have a flight to catch (b.c they are staying overnight). Some lines are strict about getting off with your color/number only - others not so much. You might want to get to the area early and maybe go somewhere for coffee or breakfast and have them call you and tell you when they think you will get off - the port will be a mad house with buses, taxis and people picking up.
