* Took myself out of the rat race ...
i was interviewing for a position on long island, did a demo and everything. When they asked me back I declined! I hope I dont regret this decision. I felt terrible giving my school only 2 weeks notice and felt that the kids would suffer for it! I love my job (hate the commute) but adore my city kids and when I did my demo lesson I just didnt feel the connection with the students. I know, CRAZINESS! Im glad I went for the opportunity but happy with my decision!!
Good luck to all of the teachers who are going back shortly!

Good luck with your decision. i felt the same... but i left my city kids. i felt terrible, but i felt i couldn't pass up the opportunity to have a much shorter commute, a higher salary and working (for me) with the specific special ed. population i wanted.
i know this year will be great for you-- you feel good about your decision and that's what's most important. just curious--what district was it, if you don't mind sharing?

I understand... I love my city kids and {gasp} my administration. Why leave a job you enjoy?

Haha same here! Everyone is really supportive for the most part. This year I am going to try and stay positive and not let the stress get to me so much. I really am happy to be staying where I am. I just need to *unwind* at the end of the day!
Good luck next year!

Re: * Took myself out of the rat race ...
I interviewed for a bilingual position once in a large Long Island district. The interviewer was so disgustingly rude that I wrote them a letter withdrawing my application. They called me for a demo lesson and I declined. My friends thought i was nuts but i couldn't see myself working there. I'll take a 40 minute commute over being forced to take direction from a snotty b-----

Re: * Took myself out of the rat race ...
good for you!!! i also declined a job before taking mine.. it was the RIGHT decision.
it is not fair that teachers are given extremely limited choices in this job market. it feels good to take some control.
