Just went into BRU for the first time
Chat Icon I almost cried because I didn't even know where to begin.

How did you all start your registries?

I didn't register, but when i started purchasing things for the baby - i pulled the registry checklist online at Babies R Us (im sure they have one available at the store as well). It had all the essentials that are needed and gave great guidance as to what was needed.

Re: WOW! That was overwhelming

I started by looking at BRUs list of suggested thing to register for. Then I went online and looked for reviews and what was recommended. Then DH and I went back to BRU and started looking at what they had. Like we knew we wanted a light weight stroller (ours is about 19 lbs) so we started looking at them by weight and then after that we looked at what safety features it had (like the harness, breaks, etc) and we decided from there. Same with the high chair and pack n play. If you know people who have kids, you can ask them what things they recommend too - LIF was great for that too.

DH and I also decided to do a little at a time. Like one night, we went to BRU JUST to look for a stroller and infant carrier. Another night we went ONLY to look for a high chair and pack and play. It was easier that way for us bnecause we knew we had one goal to do each night. Once we finished, we left. Then went back again and picked out other stuff.

ME TOO!! I went with my sister and my neice (10 months old). I would have freaked out if I was on my own or with DH.

This is what I did too, that story can be pretty overwhelming. But once you get started it gets easier, and more fun!

Re: WOW! That was overwhelming

I too found it extremely overwhelming. I started by reading Baby Bargains. I then went to the store and just kind of went around to each department trying to pick what I thought was best. I then did additions/deletions online and went back a few times.

I found the bridal registry process much easier. After all, I've known about china, crystal, silver, appliances, bedding, etc. for much longer and have actually used them much more, so it was easier. I guess after all this baby purchasing stuff is done, I'll be an "expert" on those things too (yea, right). Chat Icon

But I have to be honest, I was looking online at some of the stuff on BRU website, adn I don't like any of itChat Icon I like some stuff at Buy, Buy Baby, but I think it's too expensive.Chat Icon Plus, my mom, who is a feeding specialist for newborns and infants, was with me at BRU and she was looking at the high chairs with me, and she was telling me they are all bad for a developing baby's digestive trackChat Icon I don't know what to do about registering, I'm so overwhelmed just thinking about it.

i felt the same way when i started looking for furniture and went into BRU for the first time. we don't have a BBB near us, but i remember feeling Chat Icon when i went in a couple years ago to buy a present for my friend Chat Icon . just like with everything else, one figures out what to buy where over time...

Plus, my mom, who is a feeding specialist for newborns and infants, was with me at BRU and she was looking at the high chairs with me, and she was telling me they are all bad for a developing baby's digestive trackChat Icon

curious, what does she recommend?

Re: WOW! That was overwhelming

My mom said the issue is two-fold. One, that a lot of high chairs are in a reclined position and cannot be moved to an upright position, she said the baby MUST be in an upright position at all times when they're in the high chair. Then she said it HAS to have an adjustable foot rest that will grow with the baby. Not one, single high chair had both options. They were all really unstable, as well. I am not sure what her reasoning for these two things were because I was so overwhelmed I wasn't listening, but I can ask her, too. Oh, and she's already giving me hell about not giving a toddler a sippy cupChat Icon Love her, but sometimes I hate that she is a specialist in this areaChat Icon Just let me be naive like most other young mothers!Chat Icon

Re: WOW! That was overwhelming

they give you a long list of must haves. we started with the big things and worked our way down. it is very overwelming but just stick to certain areas and dont do it all in one day

I highly recommed the Baby Bargains book. I pretty much used this as my registry bible!

Re: WOW! That was overwhelming

Go online (BRU) and look at lists that they post...ask friends or people here who have given birth and find out what you need and what is a waste of money!
