Morning meetings/Calendar
What do you do during your morning meeting? I've always done some sort of morning message, calendar, weather, # of days in school & a read aloud as well as a review of a previously taught skill, but I'm looking for some new ideas. TIA!

Re: Morning meetings/Calendar
In Kindergarten I did the Calendar, weather, counting, number and letter recognition, name recognition, and some sort of reading/writing activity on chart paper. For example Today is Monday, September 8th. My favorite flavor of ice cream is: and I would make a tally of their favorite flavor.
hope that makes sense!

I pretty much do the same things...we have a big ABC chart that we go through "A, ah, apple...B, buh, bear" and we also read our sight words each day once they've been introduced. I just got a smartboard this year so I am going to try to do some of the morning meeting things on there!

Re: Morning meetings/Calendar
I do the same thing too. We have a morning message where I have spelling mistakes or left out a word. So first we read and correct. Then we read the poem of the week. Each day we do something different, like chant it, find rhyming words, etc. Then I do a read aloud or a shared writing. We will also go over our word wall words of the week too. Sometimes I will hand out whiteboards, and we will make words with word families. I save the calendar for math time because with the calendar we do patterns, count the days of school, add a penny for each day, so to me its the perfect lead into math.
