Need (driving) vacation suggestions

I'm looking for suggestions on where to go next summer. For the past 3 years, we've gone to Bar Harbor, Maine with DH's siblings. His family is very active and loves to hike, kayak, etc.

We'd like to go to a different place this year. We'd be looking for a place similar to Bar Harbor where there are a lot of outdoor activities. We live in CT and would prefer the drive be no more than 6 hours. We'd be going for 1 week and would probably rent a house with his family as opposed to staying in a hotel. Also, it should be family friendly since we will have a 7 month old.

We were thinking of looking into Lake George, Saratoga, the Berkshires (near Tanglewood), Lake Placid, and Lake Winnepesaukee (in NH). Has anyone been to any of these places? Do you have any other suggestions? Thank you for your help.

Lake George is really nice. I went there last summer with a couple of my friends and we had a really nice time. Montauk is great also but you have to book places in advanced because a lot of their hotels and places get booked fast.
