Chris "Mad Dog" Russo's New Show on XM/Sirius
Anyone listen?
Thoughts?
For me, I listen daily, and for me, the pros are:
1. He's alone, on satellite radio, which means he can yell and scream and rant as much as he wants, about whatever he wants, which is his gimmick. I often felt that on WFAN, since it was NY-based, and on the YES Network, he had to cut back a bit to please the suits, when he went on a Yankee or Met tirade. I even heard him curse once since coming to satellite
2. The one thing I couldn't stand on WFAN, was the sports "flashes" every 20 minutes. They'd just be getting deep into a topic and have to stop for the flash. Plus, there were tons of commercials aside from the flashes. On the new show, flashes are done twice an hour and commercials are less than on WFAN.
Cons
1. He did have a great chemistry with Mike that is missed.
2. The success of that show will be based on him attracting national listeners. He has to now focus on the hot sports topics from a NATIONAL perspective vs. a New York perspective. Alot of his callers this week are from NY, and fans of the old show. They want to talk Mets/Yankees/Jets/Giants, which doesn't always interest the rest of the country. He's going to have to balance the New York stuff to keep his loyal base that he built, while opening it up nationally to encourage listeners, who may have never heard him before.

i agree with the WFAN "flash breaks" sometimes the commercials and such take forever.. it is highly annoying..
you know i cant stand the Mad Dog.. i only listen to the FAN in the morning and afternoon before MIke comes on.. he is annoying too..but better than Chris..lol
but i agree.. Chris will have a tough time not only talking about NY sports.. he has to build up a fan base nationally now.. its not easy!!

and it bothered me, because i couldn't figure out why

It's not afternoon on the west coast

LOL... yea i think they mentioned this in the paper that he says good DAY now and not good afternoon.. it makes sense!! it would have took me a while to understand it too

if you're listening on Sirius - he's on Channel 123
if you're listening on XM - he's on Channel 144
2 PM - 7 PM EST every day
