I actually found when booking the flight for our upcoming vacation that going directly to the airline's website and booking directly with them was a bit (not much) cheaper... you don't have to pay those broker-like fees that the travel websites tag on.

I normally use Amex
our thanksgiving flights that I booked in JULY were $1600 (from NY to FL)
normally I book now and they are $1300
the prices are nuts!

I actually like going through tripadvisor.com b/c it searches so many sites all at once, some I've never even heard of. It takes a little bit, but IMO well worth it
