Knitting Question...
I am knitting my first baby sweater - and it has a boarder that runs up both sides. The sweater itself is a stockenette stitch, but the boarder is ribbed. The boarder runs up one side along the button holes, around the neck, and down the other side by the buttons. To do the border in the ribbing, you have to "pick up" your stitches along the edge of the stockenette pieces. I understand that part.
My question is, when you pick up all the stitches, won't you need a huge needle to put them on? How do you do that? I don't think they make needles that long - even the ones with the chord won't do.

Re: Knitting Question...
Use double pointed circular needles. I've used them for a similar technique and it will work. In general I prefer using circular needles and actually use those for all of my projects.

what she said.
the only way to have that many stitches on needles is to put them on circular needles. they can run just a few dollars at michaels or ac moore.
i ONLY knit on circular needles. you might fall in love with them once you try them.
please post a picture once you're done.

Re: Knitting Question...
Hmmm - I still can't picture it.
I actually am knitting on the circular needles, and they are really only long enough to make the back.
This isn't what I'm working on - but it gives you the idea. I will need to work a boarder like the little pink sweater. Do they make circular needles that are long enough for that? Maybe I have to go to a knitting store to find ones that long. My Michales ones may not cut it...
ETA - I mean do they make needles long enough in a size 8. I have a jumbo set that I used for a blanket - they were really long. But for the little needles, the plastic rope piece between the needles was short. KWIM?

Re: Knitting Question...
I've gotten all of my needles at the knitting store. The circular ones come in various lengths. For example, the ones you would use to work the neck of a sweater are pretty short. How long is the one you're using?
When I've done a sweater like the one you posted below there is still quite a bit of bunching on the needle. (The one you posted below is from a Debbie Bliss book- I have that book. I did the one from that book that has the 4 inch boarder around the whole thing.) It still works out fine. You just won't see it until you start binding off.

Re: Knitting Question...
I really love her sweater patterns. I've made a few for DS and for myself. But I also want to warn you that there is a tendency for errors in her patterns.
Please check your pattern against her website for any revisions.

I made this sweater
for DS and a different one, and had trouble with the collars. I had to make up the pattern for the collar on the above sweater because her instructions just didn't work. The other one I am referring to just didn't look like the picture when it was finished (looked smaller) so I ended up doing a few more rows to get it to look right.
GL with the sweater. I would love to see a picture when you're done.
