Possible beginnings of Diverticulitis
Thats what DH haS. Told him to eat more fiber... we were like, sheesh, thats ALL we eat!!!
But thank God it was nothing serious!!! 
ETA - it is possibly the beginning of it - not the full blown thing yet...

That's no fun!
He can't eat seeds of anykind or popcorn. It get stuck and that's no good.
Glad it's not more serious!

Diverticulitis can be pretty serious. He needs to watch his stools closely for signs of constipation, bloating, and abdominal pain. Now that he has this, definitely work hard to get ~30g of fiber a day and monitor his bowel functioning. In June I was hospitalized, 3 days before my wedding with my second bout of a severe diverticulitis infection. Please tell him to be careful but enjoy life. Of all things that his pains could have been...that's pretty good news!!!! Just out of curiosity, was he under any extra stress when he became symptomatic? I ask this because of all the patients I know, including myself, stress is a huge precursor. But no one in western GI medicine can concur. I wonder if your DH was stressed.

We are poor and have 3 kids to support. Stress  
He has actually been eating again, which is good. ALL we eat is fiber and he's never consitpated. they were not too concerned... He said to come back in 5-6 years (after his follow up next month!)

so glad you have the diagnosis.
He should watch his diet. Nuts, seeds could get stuck in the pockets that form.

Fiber will definitely help. I can't eat tomatoes, cucumbers, popcorn, etc. Iceberg lettuce aggravates it too. I like Benefiber, the tasteless powder, mixed in OJ.

My dad has this, but didn't know it until it was to late. We were at a family party in June when he had what he thought was gas pains (my dad is pretty much immune to pain) as the night wore on he got much sicker and wound up in the ER. He had to have emergency surgery to remove the put of the colon with the diverticulitis because the pocket burst. Had he know sooner he could have avoided the whole thing by avoiding foods that would get caught in the "pockets". AS long as your DH stays away from nuts and food with skin, like grapes and cherries he should be fine.
