Joseph Charles birth story
Pretty uneventful. We got to the hospital at 6am, went into L&D triage, hooked up to monitors and IV. My Dr came in around 730 after being in Russia for 2 weeks and she was ready to go. I got that lovely drink of Bicitrate, OMG I dont know what battery acid tastes like, but this crap is probably the closest to it.
My hosptial is a teaching hosptial so they asked DH & I if it was ok that we had 2 3rd year medical students and 2 student nurses in the room with us, we said it was fine. As we began the procedure, I felt very nauseaus, not a good thing heaving as they are cutting. After that I felt fine. At 8:32 I felt a pop and then the beautiful sound of my son crying (and crying and crying). Both DH & I were crying, they brought him over to me I kissed him a few times and told him how much I loved him. The Neo-Natalogist came over and said they were taking him to the nicu since I was on insulin at the end of my pregnancy, even though his apgar scores were 9 and 9.
They finished the surgery and my dr let one of the med school students do my staples
In the recovery room the 2 student nurses were cleaning me,let me say that there is NO MODESTY in child birth be it c-section or vaginal. As one of the nurses is cleaning me she said "did you go to IS72 and Port Richmond" I was like ummm yea, she said "Oh we went to school together" Thats great, I was sooo embarrassed, thankfully I didnt remember her.
I was taken to my room and waited and waited to see my baby. Unfortunatley I didnt get to see my son for 24 hours, come Thursday morning I was in tears and was finally able to go up to see him. One of the student nurses was assigned to me for the whole day, she was so sweet and said that my delievery was the first she ever witnessed and would always remember us. They wheeled me up stairs and after scrubbing up I was able to hold him. All around my baby were preemie babies and I felt so bad for them, but after seeing how loving the nurses are I felt so much better, matter of fact one of the preemies was released that day and the nurses were crying, so it made me feel good to know that they get so attached to these babies. Another thing that helped was that my SIL's niece is a nurse in the nicu and she took charge over his care. He was released to the maternity ward that night and has been with me since.
He came home yesterday and he is such a good baby. He eats and sleeps like a champ. This morning he peed and pooped on me lol and my older son is totally in love with is little brother. My recovery has been great. The only thing that bothers me are the staples, they have been the hardest part. I was able to control any pain with motrin although they offered percoset (which my roommate must have taken 10). It was a wonderful experience since I found out I was pregnant, and I thank God for sending us another little miracle.

Because of my spinal I had to recover for 12 hours, then the night nurses came on and they were just horrible and wouldnt get me a transport to the nicu
