Re: NYC Marathon Countdown

can I post for my hubby here?

he did his last "long" run, a 15 on Friday and ran a great time.

he was feeling confident after his performace at the SI half (he ran a good time even after adding 3 miles to the front and back end of the race to do about a 20) and the cooler weather is really great.

he'll be doing 4-5 5 miles runs this week, and I'll be doing MY thing...FEEDING him all the foods they recommend for optimal performance.

this is his 7 marathon AND it's on his 34th birthday Chat Icon

it has been a long road for you guys!!! congrats to getting this far!

I did my last long run of 13 miles Saturday morning. I felt great and feel ready for the 26.2!

I'm still unsure whether I want to wear long sleeves or short. I ran today with long sleeves at 45 degrees and felt ok...legs were cold but that's to be expected. I did sweat but not sure how much it matters. Gotta think about this one.

Im super excited, and will definitely miss not having a long run Saturday morning this week.

Thanks for the FM...I got it now!!

I don't follow a nutrition plan...but I eat the same things unless I go out which is usually once or twice a week. I eat a yogurt with granola and almonds for breakfast...seriously every single day. Chat Icon Lunch is a whole wheat pita with hummas and chopped peppers, cucumbers, and yarlsburg cheese, sometimes...this is most days...but sometimes veggie soup or a english muffin with turkey and cheese.
Dinner is either whole wheat pasta with a veggie and piece of chicken, or a salad with veggies, pecans, cranberries etc and whatever else my BF wants to feed me Chat Icon Chat Icon

I plan on eating this way up until next Monday. Then I will be in NYC staying in a hotel so I will maintain breakfast, lunch will be steamed chicken, veggies and brown rice from this place by my office or a veggie stir fry and dinner will be hit or miss...sushi probably on some days...not really sure yet.

The key really is to not do anything different these weeks than you have during your training.

alright - got it! thanks.

will stick to what i have been doing. as you had mentioned above, im not sure what im wearing as well. i know im wearing capris but as far as my top goes - i dont like tee shirts, so its either a tank (sleeveless tee, not the TANKY tanks) or a long sleeve. but i worry about overheating? ack!

I wore a long sleeve the other morning and I definitely sweat but I was not hot! So it's kinda tricky. When I ran 2 years ago it was about 45 degrees and I ran in a short sleeve with a singlet over it (ran with a charity) and I was ok...but I remember at the end when it got shady I got a little chilly. So I must be remembering that since I am considering a long sleeve.

You are FINE...DO NOT WORRY!!

I didn't run at all 5 weeks before the marathon 2 years ago due to an achilles injury. You are trained, fit and ready to run. Focus on getting better...and clearing up that sinus infection!

I promise you, you will run like a rock star...there is nothing you can do in these final days anyway....you are ready.

I would just run a few miles at the end of next week to loosen your legs.

Rest, rest, rest and enjoy this time...cause in 9 days you will be running your butt off!!

Feel better Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Now it's my turn...last night I went to sit on the couch and bam, the lower right hand side of my back had a spasm. It hurts moderately, more so when I turn, twish or bend. My BF worked out the knot he found but now the site is sore from him pushing it. Im takine Aleve and switching between ice and heat. I could run with it, I think, not going to try today...but also think it will go away during the week. YIKES Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: NYC Marathon Countdown

So sorry im just replying to you now - thank you for your encouragement on my end.....now for you....

GIVE YOURSELF 2 DAYS at least!!!!

thats not something you want to toy with and you want it (the knot) to completely relax - do you have muscle relaxers or xanex or anything laying around? i know that must sound weird, but i happen to have that stuff lying around. (the xanex is my moms, but she gives me a pill every once in a while if im freaked out about something) ......take something to relax your body, give the kink a chance to relax itself. dont push it hard just yet. wait until wednesday fo ra run. maybe walk arounda track or something...i know thats the most fristrating - walking when you could be running....haha.

5 DAYS!!!!!

Re: NYC Marathon Countdown

Sorry guys but I was a away for a friend wedding & am so glad to be back. I have had a cough/cold for 2 weeks now.
I am getting a little anxious, but so excited. I felt better when we were running longer distances. I did not adjust to the tapering.

I am thinking of doing long sleeves w/pants and gloves. I am always cold. I have been running in a hat lately.

Good Luck!!!!! I will be thinking of the both of you!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
