Highlight of my conference

So I went upstate last week for a conference, and imagine my shock when I ran into a former student on the first day. It turns out that she's a senior in college now ( ... I taught her in 9th grade honors years ago), and she's going to be student teaching as an ENGLISH TEACHER in the fall. When I told her how excited I was that she was actually doing this, she said, "well, I don't know if I ever told you, but you're the reason I decided to become an English teacher." I seriously almost started . It was one of the most amazing things any student has ever said to me. And it's so hard to believe that I could ever have that much of an influence on a student who I taught in my second year as a teacher... we just never know, I guess.

(I told her later in the conference that I was good after that. Didn't need to go to any workshops. )

That is awesome and what a tribute!! I can totally see you having that effect!

A similar thing happened to me two years ago. Last year she ended up student teaching at the HS and this year she became faculty!!! (Lordy, I feel old!!) I am so sorry I never got to see her in action. And this is one of the reasons I am volunteering to grade the Regents in January--I must be sick!

OMG that is just BEAUTIFUL!! I always knew you were an amazing teacher. You must feel over the moon about that.

Thanks so much, everybody. It's so nice to have a place to share stories like these with people who appreciate how much something like that means.

BTW, someday you are going to write a book of all your heartwarming teacher stories
