Got my NYCARES Winter Wishes letters today

And both children are from the same facility, wanted the same thing and it's at the top of the list of suggested gifts for the age group.

Just struck me odd ... I usually get two very different kids.

And was it just me missing something or did you not have the option to choose a young child or a teen?

In any case, I think I'm shopping this week to get it done and in the mail!! Chat Icon

I got a form letter from an 11 year old.

She just filled in what she wanted and signed her name. She wants an art set - she glued a picture from the ToysRUs toy catalogue.

I will admit I was a little disappointed that it was a form letter. Every year previous I had gotten a handwritten letter with kids drawings, etc. I guess it's because she's 11 and probably doesnt believe in Santa anyway.

ETA: Forgot to answer your post; yes there was only one option when I did it. Maybe they changed it because everyone was choosing child and not teenagers?

Mine were handwritten letters. The first was an 8 year old girl who asked for "snowgloves of my very own, a box of crayons, a toy of my very own" It made me cry.

The second was a 7 year old boy who had drawn a Christmas tree and presents on the top. He wants a laptop, an xbox 360, a Diego toy, a batman toy and then there were things I can't figure out. Anyone have any ideas?

Sidman toy (spiderman?)
sbrman toy (superman?)
Jakatrn (no ideas for this one)
sin well toy (no ideas here either)

Could be ... I always chose one of each.

Both my letters were hand written with drawings of Christmas trees, etc.

Both said "Dear Friend" ... and "I want ... blah blah blah". A llittle almost like a form letter ...

Let me just say I'm not *complaining* - I'm still happy to participate!! Again, just a little different then some letters I've received in years past that did almost make me cry.

Mine was actually a photocopy with just lines for what they want and their name. I wonder maybe if we got letters from the same place.

I'm happy to participate too.

I am thinking of doing this for the first time this year. How many gifts do you buy each child?

I "think" they tell you around $20-$25. My person asked for Wrestling figures, which are about $10-$15 each, so I will probably get two of them and a few small toys to add to the box anyway as extras.

Re: Got my NYCARES Winter Wishes letters today

I got to 11 year olds from the same facility-
one said dear friend and one said dear santa...
I already bought their presents.
One wanted a basketball and two bone books and design pencils (I had no idea what design pencils were so I got him colored ones).
the other wanted monopoly and a deck of playing cards- I'm probably going to also pick him up Uno to go with it since I spent a lot more on #1.

By the way- Target dollar spot has great Disney Princess and Pixar Cars stuff- for younger kids would be great filler... I actually bought a bunch of it for my samaritan's purse shoe box gifts.

design pencils are the charcoal color kind of pencils. they are black on the out side. and the bone books are so he can draw like figures. he must me a artiest in the making. you can get them at michaels or at wal mart. they look something like this.
