? for those of you who go on business trips or arrange them.

Is it normal to pair up 2 strangers in a room together? I can see them sharing cars, but rooms? ? Chat Icon

DH is going on a business trip next week for 5 nights with 9 other men from his company. They are all from different locations and none of them know each other. None of them have ever even spoken on the phone with each other. This is going to be along week for DH. He does not do well with strangers.

I've only been on 1 business trip a long time ago, but there were other people from my office and we all had separate rooms.

I've been on many business trips and never had to share a room, but is this some sort of "team building excersise"? If so, maybe that's why they are being paired up...otherwise, they are being cheap Chat Icon

NEVER EVER!!! That is very weird. Talk about being cheap!! The company should have picked a cheaper hotel so everyone could have their own room! Chat Icon to your DH for having to do this!!

It is weird. They are going to Columbus and staying at a Hampton Inn, I'm sure there has to be something cheaper.

What if 1 person has a medical problem (not that DH does) and needs to spend time in the bathroom. I don't get it.

Thanks Ladies!

I have on occassion had to share a room with a colleague. I work in higher ed though, so there's a lot of cutting corners so that more than one person can go to a conference. One other time it was so we could "get to know" other people in our division outside of our specific department. Luckily for me, the person doing the room assignments didn't realize that my roommate and I had known each other since grad school and were friendly. Chat Icon

I have never shared a room on a business trip. I think that is beyond cheap!

never heard of that, I guess it's a sign of the times?

have you checked the hotel, maybe it's more like 2 bedroom suites?

hope your DH makes it through the week

DH always has to share a room. Sometimes he gets to choose who he wants but sometimes he doesn't know anyone or doesn't get the choice. He works in pharma and they have tons of trainings and meetings that are away from home so it is pretty unrealistic that everyone would get there own room all the time.

Sounds like they are being really cheap. That is so awkward...just think, going into the shower, sleeping 3 feet away from a practical stranger...no thank you. I would be tempted to get a room on my own credit card!

It's not totally uncommon, I'd say it's about 50/50 to be honest.

The company I work for, for the most part, gives everyone their own room but for the national sales meeting the reps and anyone else attending from the home office have to have a roommate.

Re: ? for those of you who go on business trips or arrange them.

I have traveled quite a bit on business and I've NEVER had to share a room. I think that's insane to force two adults to travel for business AND share a room... but it unfortunately happens. I don't think it's exactly common, though.

DH also travels for work and never has to share a room. I'd be livid if I had to share a room while traveling on business -- and even more upset if I had to share with a total stranger. To me, having to share a room on a business trip is totally unacceptable.
