I have a cooking confession. . .

Lately, I started using cooking wines from the supermarket. Chat Icon

I TRY to keep wine on hand but to be honest, once it is open for ONE recipe - I drink it. Chat Icon

So, as a backup, I bought the cooking marsala wine and cooking white wine. And you know what, no one has noticed a difference! I just don't add any salt and it tastes just as good!

I was always a big believer in "never cook with wine you wouldn't drink" but so far, so good!

I have been meaning to buy that cooking wine, simply because I don't usually have wine in the house unless its a girls night...Glad to know they're good!

I almost bought the marsala last week at the market!

Re: I have a cooking confession. . .

I have the red, white and marsala cooking wines. We are not big drinkers at home - only when we have company really, so it would be a waste to open a bottle just to cook with.

I made Tuscan Bean Soup yesterday and it called for white wine and I used the cooking white wine - it was absolutely fine.

If I am making a dish heavy with wine (couque van, scampi, etc...) I will open a real bottle because I feel it's the main focus of the sauce. But for background flavor I will use the store cooking wines.

We use it too, and honestly it's fine. We don't really have wine on hand to drink regularly b/c we don't drink wine regularly....I'm totally with you Tilde!

I use those all the time. I tried recipes with real wine and I actually like the cooking wine much better. If it's any consolation true alcoholics would drink cooking wine.
