Korinne (Eisinger) & Alex Mesimeris need your support with their new arrival Leyland James Mesimeris, born October 3, 2008

Korinne Eisinger, who taught at Salk Middle School, and Alex Mesimeris, a teacher from Deer Park High School were anxiously awaiting the birth of their first child. Baby Leyland was delivered early due to a prognosis of hydrocephalus (water on the brain). Leyland was sent to LIJ/Schneider’s Children Hospital where he could receive the best care in the country. After he was born, it was found that the hydrocephalus was due to a tumor. At only one week old, little Leyland had surgery to remove the tumor and a shunt was placed in his skull to help drain all the build up. The doctors were able to remove most of the tumor, but Leyland and his weakened immune system still have to undergo 6 months of chemotherapy. The cost of all these medical procedures is astronomical, and has only added to the pain and suffering of this family. We are hoping to raise money to help defray some of these expenses.

I worked with Korinne at Salk and shared a room with her last year. Everyone at Salk was sadden by the news and are trying to help raise money. Our thoughts and prayers go out for baby Leyland, Korinne and her husband.
