Chardonnay Question
I'm a red wine drinker. But - a friend of mine who is leaving our firm offered to give me her unopened bottle of Chardonnay that had been given to her as a holiday gift (a couple of years ago). I was grateful to receive it but since I'm not a white wine drinker, I'm not sure about something: it seems awfully dark in color. It stops short of being a light-caramel color. Is this the color of most Chardonnay? It is from Austrailia and the year on the bottle is 1990.
Feedback from wine all connosieurs welcome.

Re: Chardonnay Question
Some chardonnays are darker than others. I think the darker ones are oak aged, which give it a sort of "heavier" flavor.

Re: Chardonnay Question
Lindeman's is a popular Australian wine. IF it wasn't stored correctly I wouldn't drink it.

Re: Chardonnay Question
My DH just he is 99% sure it is bad. That type of wine is really made to only be drank within a year or two of it being made.
He said open it up - but he is sure it is going to smell like vinegar.
Sorry

Re: Chardonnay Question
Too old!
Most white wines are not meant to be aged anymore. Most of them are good up to about 5 years nowadays.
18 years = trash.

Re: Chardonnay Question
I agree with the others that it is most likely bad.
I would definitely open it up to see how strong the smell is. Then dump it down the drain. The color of it sounds wayyyy off.

Re: Chardonnay Question
Thanks everybody. I'm really glad I asked. There is NO WAY I'm drinking it. I'm not even going to bother to smell it.
