Halo Breast Pap - Updated 12/17
Has anyone had this done? My OBGYN just began offering it and I've made an appointment for next Tuesday. I'm curious if anyone has gotten a positive (or whatever it would be).
Update (12/17/08):
Had the test done yesterday. Not fun - it cracked the nipple and I was bleeding during the whole test  But, it's done. I get the results in about a week. I'll update more then.

I have heard about this before but haven't heard a lot about it. How much is your Dr charging since it isn't covered by insurance?

I just googled it, it is something along the lines of getting fluid out of your breasts and it analyzes if there is anything precancerous in the breast- if you google it it will come up. HTH
PS What they put women thru!!!

i asked my obgyn about it at my last appt. my mom passed away from breast cancer so i was curious about the test. my doc told me its an annual test. They will try to draw fluid from your breast to determine if the fluid contains any precancerous cells. If the test is positive you are sent to a breast surgeon for your options. my obgyn told me that if its positive i would most likely be followed more closely in screening for breast cancer. as of now,i declined the test. i already go for annual mri's, sonograms and mammograms. I might do it in the future.

From what the dr told me they basically put a breast pump on and try to extract liquid. If there's no liquid, great. If there is (about 50% of nonbreastfeeding women), they'll test that liquid for certain types of cells. It is supposed to warn of cancer as far as 8-10 years before a mammography would pick it up. Unfortunately BC is extremely prevalent in my family (both grandmothers and 2 maternal aunts) and I have very cystic breasts and have to go for checkups every six months.
Anyway, I was just curious if anyone got a positive; like what happens then. I'll keep you guys updated on mine - it seems I'm the guinea pig 
Oh, and my office is charging $125 which IMO given my situation its well worth it.

I would be very curious if you get a positive. I guess if you get a positive BRAC genes? I know some women decide to have a mastectomy if they are genetically pre-disposed or have close family that had BC.
I'm high risk because of an abnormality a few years ago and already have sono, MRI and Mammos every year. I still would like to do this. I think $125 is very reasonable.

This is different from the genetic test; I'd still like one of the women in my family who have had BC get that done to see if we have bad luck or bad genes.
The nurse said that a "positive" doesn't necessarily mean you're going to get BC, you're just at a higher risk and need to be very closely monitored.
I'll keep you all updated when I get the results.

I was just asking saying that I would do this if I tested positive for the gene.
