Lets talk BOOKS

-What was the last book that you read and you found to be one of the best?
-What is your favorite book(s)?

I 'll start :
Last book I read and really loved was - "Do they hear you when you cry"

I have many favorites (including some Russian and Georgian books), but my absolute favorites are:

The kite runner
The human stain
For kings and planets
The Da Vinci code

Looking forward to reading "A thousand splendid suns"

Last book I actually finished:
A Passage to India-E.M. Forster
Started Truman Capote's In Cold Blood. Didn't like it. Then went to Thomas Paine's Rights of Man by Christopher Hitchens and was bored. Now I'm reading two books at the same time: Black Rednecks, White Liberals by Thomas Sowell and King Leopold's Ghost by Eric Hochschild. Last book that I read and simply fell in love with: Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides. Favorite book of all time: tie between Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath and East of Eden. (Sorry for the length. I really like to read!)

Middlesex is GREAT!

Does anyone here consider themselves a book snob? I have to admit, I'm guilty of this.

I haaaaaaaaaaaated middlesex. I couldn't get into it... So I gave up.
I'm a little bit of a book snob. Normally I won't give up on a book, especially one my mother suggested... I'm stubborn and even though I hate a book, I'll still read it.

On Beauty is a perfect example.

Re: Lets talk BOOKS

Last book I read and REALLY loved was My Friend Leonard by James Frey. (Before that was, you guessed it, A Million Little Pieces by James Frey)

I also recently read Hot Blood... I was glued to the book for the story (based on a true story I knew a lot about), but it wasn't incredibly well-written.

More recently I have been reading nonfiction / horse-related books.

My favorite book of all time is A Separate Peace by John Knowles.

ETA -- I asked hubby to get me I am America and So Can You for Christmas. :lol

I am currently reading The 19th Wife.

At first I thought, eh, but now I am into it. It's pretty fascinating actually.

Favorite book of all time is way too hard. I have too many!

A little bit of trivia. The school A Separate Peace is set in is the same school that John Irving attended and based his novel Owen Meany in.

I read both and LOVED both.. it doesnt bother me that it was made up, because I read for the idea of being emersed in the story,. For me at least it didnt matter if it was true or not.

Re: Lets talk BOOKS

The last book I read was World Without End, by Ken Follet. It was the sequel to Pillars of the Earth. I liked Pillars better, but they were both good books.

I have a lot of favorites recently:

I loved loved loved Middlesex.

Over the summer I read all of the Phillipa Gregory books about the wives of Henry VIII. They were all great. I loved the entire series.

Abundance was also very good. It's about Marie Antionette.

As you can see, I'm on a historical fiction kick.

I like this post, I haven't read Twilight, but plan to eventually. I like to see what others have liked.
