Winos - come in please!
I have a wine snob in my family and I'd like to get him a nice bottle for xmas - not wanting to spend more than $25 - would be thrilled if I could go lower.(its part of a bigger gift)
I am willing to look at ports and desert wines too! Any recommendations???

i love all the wines that sterling vineyard makes (it's a california vineyard)
also i don't know if they sell it here but franciscan (also from CA) makes a port that is to DIE for, so yummy!!

Re: Winos - come in please!
you should probably avoid ports at that price point.... good ports are
maybe get a pouilly fuisse (a white wine)? It's pretty nice, and you can find a reasonably good one for $20.....

Not sure where you live but Stew Leonards Liquor store in Farmingdale has a HUGE wine selection and the people there are generally pretty knowledgable and friendly.
Here are a few I like in that price range (I tend to buy cheaper ones for myself) Santa Margarita Pinot Grigio - about $20 St. Supery Moscato (Dessert Wine) - about $20 Robert Mondavi Cabernet Savignon - About $25 (They also have a $10 bottle which is very good)

Franciscan or Simi are usually great wines and easy to find around here. Go to a good wine store and ask them, they generally know their stock the best and can reccomend a good one in your price point.

Artesa Syrah-about $25 Chatenuef du Pape-there are some that are $$ but some that are reasonable Poiully fusse-white burgundy and always yummy
I will think of some more. If he is a wino then you would probably want to giet him something that is out of the ordinary.
