If you've had epidural injections for disc problems, please come in

I had my 1st epidural shot for the ruptured disc in my back this morning. At first when I got home I felt AWESOME...the sciatica in my right leg was definitely still there, but MUCH better and the difference was night and day...

...now here I am, about 12 hours later, and I'm in as much pain as I was before the injection.

Please tell me the relief isn't over. My next step is surgery, and I can't have it for 3 more weeks until my c-section scar is healed. I've been living with this pain for 8 months and I just can't do it anymore. Chat Icon

I'm hoping to hear that maybe it takes a few days to fully kick in... Chat Icon

I hate to tell you this- but they did nothing for Jake

maybe you will have a delayed reaction- but he didn't

getting the sugrey was the best thing to ever happen to us- we have our life back

2 months later- he isn't even taking pain meds

we have been living in this hell for almost 5 years - it's awful - I totally feel for you Chat Icon

Thanks so much, Beth. I couldn't remember if Jake had had them or not.

I know better than to put too much faith in them, since my disc is SO bad, but I felt so well this afternoon that I was hoping this was just a temporary relapse.

I already have my surgery appointment, I was just hoping I wouldn't have to live with this pain until then. 5 years you guys did this???? I can't imagine...it's "only" been 8 months for me and this pain has actually made my brain think of just ending it all...which says something because that's something I would NEVER do. Chat Icon

My mom just had her second injection...Its helped somewhat...if she does any heavy lifting or is "too active" one day, she will feel the pain.

yep- 5 years

the first one was bad- but b/c Jake was so young and "fit" looking - no one wanted to cut him open

until finally last Dec he got it fused

and then 3 months later someone crashed into him driving

then c4/c5 was even more messed up then the orginal

he just got that one done 2 months ago- it was that bad- there was no argument on this one- it was almost crushing his spinal cord

plus he had knee surgey b/c of that accident-

11 months- 3 operations

I am so happy to put it all behind us

you will feel so much better in a few week! I will be thinking of you! Chat Icon

I just had one maybe 2 weeks ago and felt great! But now the pain has come back.

Immediately after, I didn't feel any relief. Then in about 3-4 days I started to feel really good. The pain in my leg went always almost completely, although the pain in my back did not go away at all.

They said I can come back soon and get another, and perhaps another 2 weeks later and that might help. Otherwise I think surgery is my only other answer also.. but we are in the midst of fertility treatments so I don't know... KWIM? I have been dealing with this for 6 months already.

my dh had the series of 3 shots about 5 years ago and he has been relatively pain free. he does get achy from time to time, but nothing like the pain prior to the injections.
