Adopting as a single woman
My sister is the most amazing person and would really love to adopt a baby. The difficult part is that she is single and many countries seem not to allow single women to adopt. Does anyone know countries that do in fact allow this and any resources I may be able to pass on to her? Where can she start the process?
Thanks!

Re: Adopting as a single woman
a single male friend of mine just adopted domestically. His son is 6 weeks old.
ETA - i don't have much info to share because this was all under wraps until one day he announced that he is "having a baby" and a few weeks later he was born. All I really know is that he used some agency and they placed him. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much.

Re: Adopting as a single woman
You can foster to adopt as a single parent.
Singles can adopt domestically.
Russia allows singles to adopt but its not the easiest road.
China allows a certain number of singles to adopt each year.

Re: Adopting as a single woman
I know of a single woman who adopted from Guatemala. That is great that your sister wants to do that. I give her credit. I wish I was able to do that when I was single, but my salary wasn't high enough and I had no support system. Best of luck to your sister.

Thanks ladies, I really appreciate the info. I'm going to help her do some research. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions.
Many blessings for those in the adoption process!

Re: Adopting as a single woman
I know a single mom who adopted her son domestically. There is an adoption agency called Spence Chapin which is who she used (if they're still around). Good luck!

Re: Adopting as a single woman
I used Wide Horizons for Children www.whfc.org
There are programs for single women to adopt. Tell her that if she wants to be a mom...she can!
