If I work out xxxx much, how much should I be eating?
Just curious if anyone has any insight to this. I struggle with always being hungry, and everyone saying well you workout so much so eat what you want. I don't like this method, and would like to drop 5-7lbs so how do I figure this out how much food/calories is healthy?
So on a day like yesterday I ran 12 miles out on a hilly terrain....took just under 2 hours. What would be the right amount of calories?
Other days I resistance train and either do an hour of spin or 6-7 miles of interval/incline training on the mill or outside.
How do I figure this out?

I have the same "problem" I run about 40 miles a week and sometimes give into the "I can eat whatever I would like" philosophy.
This site gives you an idea of how many calories people should take in to maintain your given weight Self
If you want to lose weight, you must take in less than that. I would say you are very active so you need a minimum of 2000 calories.
Taking in too few calories will just cause your body to hold onto whatever fat you have.

I was reading someone's blog on RW that does the "bucket" method...but what i try to do is think of every mile as about 125 calories (running)
3500 = one pound

Do you girls wear heart rate monitors?
You can use a site like dailyplate.com It will calculate for you based on age/weight/height how many calories you should be eating per day if you want to lose X lbs per week.
On top of that you can enter the amount of calories you have burned in a running session (from your heart rate monitor) and just put it in there manually. It'll then tell you how many calories you should eat including what you have burned off.
You really do need to eat enough to lose weight and build muscle or else your body will start using muscle for energy and you will be "skinny fat."

Good luck!! It is actually fun
I should mention that if you are on the go and don't have access to a computer you can pick up a book called calorie king (it's less than 10 bucks can't remember). It has a ton of foods in there and you can always just keep track the old fashioned way to have an estimate before you can get to a computer and log it in.
