LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Investigators from the Orange County Sheriff's Office are looking into the death of a 4-year-old boy after riding an attraction at Walt Disney World's Epcot Monday.

The boy was riding Mission: Space with his mother and sister Monday afternoon, WESH 2 News reported.

When the ride ended, the mother reportedly carried the boy off the ride, and employees helped her place him on a bench, detectives said.

Rescue crews were called to the scene and performed CPR on the child before transporting him to Celebration Hospital. Doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead just before 5 p.m. Monday.

The boy was identified as Daudi Bamuwamye of Pennsylvania. An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause of death. A Disney representative said the park is providing support to the family and doing everything they can to help them at this time.

Disney has dealt with other tragedies in its past. A worker fell from the Skyway ride at the Magic Kingdom in 1999 just before the park opened. He was killed. A St. Petersburg man climed out of a boat on the Splash Mountain ride and was hit by another boat in 2000. He also died. In February 2004, a cast member dressed as Pluto was killed when he was run over by a float just as a parade was getting started.

How sad
What was a 4 yr doing on this ride though? I know he was tall enough, the ride just seems extreme to bring a 4 yr old on.

That's really sad. I think that ride is too intense for a 4 year old. He must have had some other underlying problem, I don't think it could KILL anyone

that is just horrible. that poor family. but honestly, even if he did meet the height requirement i think it's clear that a kid that young was not meant to go on. i mean 44" for a 4 year old is huge, isn't it?

I've also been on the Mission Space ride, and I'm surprised to hear that a 4 year old would be allowed on it.... It's very intense, and the youngest kids we saw were probably about 8 or 9. There are all sorts of warnings about the ride and if you have heart problems, etc. it's not recommended. Maybe he did have an undiagnosed heart murmur that was aggravated by the effect of the ride? So very sad

I rode it once ith two seven year olds, but 4 is too young for them to even know what's going on, and with the centrifugal force, a kid that young could choke on his own vomit or something very easily.

I know it's so sad. You bring your kid to disney and you want ti to tbe this great experinence the unthinkable happens. Just being the disney nut that I am, I have to be the first one to say that ride doesn't kill people. There had to be an underlying problem, and maybe now they shuld increase the height requirement just so tall kids who are young won't get on a ride they just can't handle

What a horrible tradegy. I agree 4yrs old is a little too young to be on that ride but there had to be something else factoring in on what caused his death.

I am sadden to hear that what a tragedy that family has to endure losing their 4 year old to a ride like that here they are a family going on vacation with their child and this happens. The family is in my prayers and thoughts.

I agree there had to be an underlying issue...but the parents should have known better...the ride is NOT suitable IMO for someone that young.
I still feel for them so much!

sounds suspicious considering the ride doesnt go faster than 5 miles per hour. i did an internship at disney world for 4 months and know the insides of WDW and epcot
