I'm sad to be here
I miscarried. I went for my 8 week appt and there was no heartbeat and the baby stopped growing. Im devastated but there's nothing i can do about it. I've accepted it and now I can move on and in a few months start trying again.
I'll have a D&c next week. Can anyone tell me what to expect when I go for it??
Many hugs and prayers for all of us

Re: I'm sad to be here
I'm so sorry for your loss! As for the D&C the physical part was really nothing, and I'm a scaredy cat usually.....with the anesthesia I didn't even have time to panic, I went to sleep and woke up maybe 45 minutes later. The emotional healing takes much longer and will definitely vary from person to person. The first week was the worst of it....but since you have a few days until you have the D&C you might already start the grieving process. I'm so sorry, please let me know if you want to talk!!

Re: I'm sad to be here
I'm so sorry and sad that another person has joined this board. I just had a D&C on Thursday. Like Helen said, the D&C was nothing compared to the emotional pain. It was over before I knew it and other than a little cramping afterwards, I feel fine physically. Feel free to FM me if you have any questions.

Re: I'm sad to be here
as scared as I was going to winthrop for the d&c in the end it was much better for me then the natural one i had the time before... i actually walked into the room(had thought they wheel you in), but then they put you out and you dont even realize it and wake up after its done, then its like your having AF visit, I believe they have you go to the ladies room before they discharge you.

Re: I'm sad to be here
So sorry for your loss... The D&C was just how the other girls explained it for me it was just all the emotional pain that was so numbing at first, and I'm so sorry you're going through this. Its as real a loss as any other and allow yourself to feel what you're feeling in each moment, but know that it will get better.

Re: I'm sad to be here
I am so sorry for your loss. I went through the same thing about 3 weeks ago. I thought I was 14 weeks and went for my first sono and learned that my baby died at 8 weeks. It was so devastating, I know how awful you must be feeling. Nothing anyone says makes you feel better. It takes time and you must allow yourself to grieve.
I had a d&c which unfortunately wasn't as straightforward for me (however I have no faith in the medical system where I live, you'll get much better care where you are I am sure of that). I got an infection afterwards but that is a very rare thing to happen. It was treatable with antibiotics and I was ok after a couple of days. I will say that if you experience anything other than AF cramps and normal AF bleeding call your doc just to be sure - the pain I had with the infection was not like AF cramps, so that's what tipped me off that something wasn't right. I also had chills/sweats and a temp, a clear sign of an infection.
I'm a little hesitant to post this as I certainly don't intend to make you worried or nervous, but my docs didn't give me any heads up as to what I might expect if I got an infection, and I really wish they had. Like I said it's very rare for an infection to happen. I am sure you will be fine though and I'll be praying for you and your dh as you go through this heartbreaking time.

Just wanted to add that I too had a mild fever after my d&c it never got over a 100.5 but my dr. felt that it may have been an infection although its rare. Thankfully he had the foresight to put me on the antibiotics right away after the d&C and he (dr.) remarked on how it reinforced his doing this for all his patients as a precautionary measure rather than waiting for something to happen and then give the antibiotics. You may want to ask your dr. about going on them just as a precautionary measure anyway. Your dr. may just do this anyway. It gave me piece of mind that I had been on them immediately, and my dr. said I healed just fine.

I think that is an excellent idea. By the time I got to the hospital my infection was quite far along (at first I thought the pain was just normal after a D&C, but as it got progressively worse I knew in my gut that something was wrong). I spent 2 days in hospital where they had me on IV antibiotics. My pain decreased very quickly with the meds once I was admitted, and when I got out it followed with a week of oral antibiotics.
ktcmblondie - I think your doc has it absolutely right. A d&c is a hard enough thing to go through, never mind the chance of infection, no matter how rare it is.
Let us know how you do, and again, my intention is not to make you more nervous, just to let you know my experience.
