whoever told you that gave you bad advice! unless you're applying for a modeling/acting job.....I can't imagine why a potential employer would need that, and I would think it would be against the law for a prospective employer to actually request a picture prior to interviewing you (as if looks, gender or race should play a part in deciding whether or not to even interview you????). I definitely won't be sending any pics with my resume, I just got my new license in the mail and I look like a serial killer in my pic.....not the impression I want to give to potential employers

Never heard of that either. I would find it very strange if a potential candidate sent me a pic with their resume.

That's only necessary if you're looking for a job where appearance is important, I mean something such as modeling or acting where they're looking for a certain "look" from the candidates. For most jobs, a picture is NOT recommended.

That's really bad advice.
Unless you're a model, actress, or dancer, sending a picture with your resume is not appropriate.

That is the norm outside of the US, however in the US I would definitely not put a photo.

Noooo... we can't have anything with a candidate's photo before hiring. If I found out a hiring manager requested it, I'd rip him a new one & put him on a performance plan just to cover our company against discrimination lawsuits.

The company I worked for had people submitting resumes with their pictures ALL THE TIME and mind you these were higher ups like Partners & Principals. Always struck me as strange, but they didn't seem to care.
I personally wouldn't.

In Europe, they always include a picture with their resume it is considered the norm for them...But here, it is not nessesary or the "norm"
