CPSE evaluations

Jordana had her speech and psych eval for CPSE since she is turning 3 in April. The speech eval didn't know how to deal with Jordana. She was so shy, she answered almost nothing. But because her talk to me was 5 word sentences, she didn't know if she would qualify (totally ignoring ALL of Jordana's receptive issues).

Then the psych eval (who is an older woman) tells me after 20 minutes Jordana needs WAY more OT. Right now she gets 30 minutes twice a week. The pysych evaluator wants her to get 1 hour 3 times a week. We can't even schedule 30- twice a week at the gym (Her home OT told us there is nothing more she can do at home). So I am getting so worried that the gym won't have space for her in the after-school hours, and then I have no idea what i would do.



As for Jordana, she is transferring from EI (which expires when she is 3) to CPSE. So I had to meet with the new service coordinator (90 minutes) last week and today Jordana had her speech and psych eval. We were late, and the speech eval didn't know how to deal with Jordana. So between 3 hours of eval, taking her to lunch (In my office- near where she was evaluated), to getting her to school and me back to the office- I started my day at 2. Then my poor baby had her regular OT at the gym last night which basically turned into a conference between me and the OT.

I spoke to her OT at the gym about it yesterday, and she was suprised by this. Jordana is fully functioning and is in school from 9-6. She gets great reports, and they have no idea she gets OT or has any sensory issues. The OT said they have to fight for approval for kids with greater needs than Jordana, so she dosen't think Jordana will get it. But if she needs it, I want her to have it.

Cpse is different than EI. YOu have to find all of the therapists, once a plan is made... IF Jordanna ets those services I would take it.... I know it sounds hard but JAcob ets OT 2x a week for 30 minutes and I wished he had more... Take everything what you can get...

ALso, I would see if you can find a therapist who can come to Jordannas school during the day. There are many that will...

I would go to the meeting and see what is offered and reevaluate from there..

Thanks Hillary. I have the same attitude. I'll do whatever she needs. Buts its so hard to hear it. I really thought she made so much progress.

Jordana get her OT sessions (also 2x 30) at the gym, so they could not go to the school. But if she qualifies for 3 times, I'll take one of those sessions at the school.

Keep your eye on the prize - it doesn't matter what she qualifies for, as long as she's getting the services she needs, at the appropriate age. I can tell you from my own personal experience growing up with a learning disability, it will in no way limit her ability to succeed in this world, and if nothing else, will give her a leg up
