Stomach Flu Help :(
Last week I had a sinus infection and was given an antibiotic that ended up eating all the good bacteria in my body, leading me to get a stomach infection. I was so dehyrdated I ended up in the hospital last nite with naseousness, dizzyness, diaherra, so sever the last 48 hrs i feel like im dying..
i was finally able to go home..and they can give me is instructions to drink gatorade and lite food and ride it out..
can anyone recommend anything else? can i take immodium or something? i read online it is a bad idea to take pepto..
can anyone recommend something that worked for them..please...

as i was pregnant - i was not allowed to take immodium. Call your regular doc - see if you can!
i was hospitalized as well, because of the pain from throwing up so violently, i pulled a muscle in my stomach and being pregnant, that scared me to death... They literally had to give me an 'in the room' toilet thingy - because i was getting closer and closer to NOT making it to the bathroom in time (that's how bad it was - the more they pumped into me - the more i had to go)..
all that helped me was NOT TO EAT. seriously...that's it. i downed gatorade like it was going out of style....
my doc's suggestion...
cut a banana in half - eat half. see what happens within 30 minutes...if it does NOT come back up (top or bottom) - then eat the other half. If it does - cut that OTHER half into a quarter and try again 2 hours later...

Not to freak you out, but if you continue to be really sick I'd say go to your regular doc and ask them to test for something called c. dif. (there's some other long technical term for it that I forget). I got this once after I took antibiotics for a sinus infection and all of the good bacteria got killed too. C dif requires another antibiotic to kill it. I felt a million times better once the doc finally figured out what it was. Hope you feel better!

thanks for the advvice girls! yeah when i was in the hosp they mentioned c diff but i guess it was ruled out due to the type of antibiotic i had taken the day b4 i got sick..
if i still feel awful tomorrow i m gonna call my regular dr again..
i like the banana idea too! I am gonna try it

i took immodium to stop the diahera and now i feel so constipated...today i threw up all the gatoreade and i think its because im constpated not because of the virus...i also have ibs so constipation is nothing new to me..
i also have tingling in my left arm and i think it may be because of the iv i had at the hospital..is this normal?
i regret taking the immodium so much but the dr had said its ok, now i wish i had just stuck to the peptio but they said i shouldnt take that either..
now i went from having the runs to being so back up i wanna vomit, im also really lite headed and dizzy but cant eat if i cant poop..
sorry for tmi..any advice? or hugs please, i feel like i m in hell

okay - first thing... the puking is also the virus...so it's possible that you are just puking for the sake of puking. FUN...i know and i'm so sorry...
how many immodium did you take? If you have IBS-C (i have it the OTHER way)....i hope you took only the smallest dosage....
can you do some colace? maybe that will help get things 'moving' persay????

ty so much, no unfortunatly i have ibs-c, i only took the 2 immodium yesterday morning, so now its been over 36 hrs since i last took it..i m still so backed up i literally look pregnant, if i dont go by tomorrow i think i might hafta use an enema because i m sooooo naseous and have so much acid in my throat :( i m holding off using the enema b/c i m trying to give my body sometime without outside intervention..
ty so much for asking and caring i truly appreciate it

i really worry for you and the not eating thing. are you at least drinking the gatorade or have you stopped that completely??
oh GOD to the enema.... i have had to do that before and i think i'd rather drink the 'colonoscopy' stuff instead of that. Hey - there's an idea....what about that stuff? Or again - that's involving 'other medication'.....

i have been drinking water and gingerale, the gatorade seemed to be giving me alot of acid build up in my chest, i m going to do the enema tomorrow, because here it is 4am and still no poop movement at all and tremendous acid in my mouth/chest.. i will keep ya posted.

hi sweety, thanks for thinking of me..i actually did the enema and it worked but unfortunatly i started throwing up again all morning..couldnt even get any food down at all..so back to the er i went..i was there all day, got another iv drip..and naseau medicine...i just got home and they sent me with some acid reducer and naseau medicine as well as major instructions to not eat any food..drink only tiny amounts of gatorade and work my way up from there, i still feel kinda bleh but they said it could take another few days until i feel better...

no problem...
i'm sorry to say it - but i'm glad you went back to the ER.....
i know the virus took me at least 13 days before i felt 'human' again...(again for me though - i think being pregnant was not helping).. Dave, my lucky bum husband, was fine with 24 hours...but some of the guys he works with were not so lucky - one of them ALSO had to go to the ER...
one thing i can tell you 100% from experience is do NOT push yourself....if you aren't feeling okay in 3 days - spend that 4th in bed... yes - it's boring and annoying, etc...but better to do that then push yourself and then relapse because you weren't 100% okay!
