Parent Phone calls make me want to scream

I actually had a parent call me a liar today when I called to tell her that her son is ALWAYS late for my class.

Ummmm......

1st of all: Why would I lie?

2nd of all: My class starts at 812 and you are telling me he should be getting here by 830....DO THE MATH!!!!!!

3rd of all: Don't tell me that your poor baby has a long commute. We all do!

(I teach HS in NYC)

4th.. Your son's writing isn't that great so suck it!

I am with you 110%! I had a few angry parents to deal with over the past few days and it is SO frustrating!

I once had a parent accuse me of taking attendance before the bell rang - that was the only logical reason her DD could possibly be marked late everyday. She was going to report me to the principal for improper attendance taking. Makes you wonder sometimes...

as in "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."



and parents like these wonder why their kids are train wrecks????? hmmm.....

I've had parents on the verge of calling me a liar and when I start proving things or the kids are there and we confront them - they get so apologetic. I know other teachers in the school have been called liars even when the proof was right in front of the teacher. Some parents will defend their kids, whether right or wrong, til the death. I know that my mom and my friends' moms would be on the side of the teacher regardless if I was right. Where is that respect!

I had a parent call me a liar today too!! They had to register for the AP exam by today and I told her I gave out the forms the first week of February. She told me I gave them out this week and would not believe me!!! I told her that she can choose not to believe me and there is nothing I can really do about that-- she continued to scream for about 10 more minutes - I swear I almost hung up the phone!!!!

Parents can be so rude... I could go on and on about this. I've had enough bad experiences talking with parents that now I only call if I absolutely must.

Welcome to my world.....Today, I was told I was targeting a student....I laughed and said, "Nope, just racial profiling" (My school is 90% African-American) Some people are just so stupid!

BTW, where do you teach in NYC?
