heart beat races randomly?
The past few weeks, my heart seems to race at random times , usually while resting or in a meeting. I like feel it in my throat and it feels like a "butterfly." It last a few seconds. I have always been an overeater but my diet has not changed that much. no coffee and usually caffeine free tea. lots of chocolate, as always, but never had this racing heartbeat before. I am up almost 15 pounds since August so I guess I am eating a bit more but it doesn't feel like its that much more. Could this be why?

It could be any number of things, but it's not something I'd ignore. I would definitely call your doctor.

This was happening to me and the dr did an EEG in the office. Nothing came of it and they chalked it up as stress related. Which could be. Doesn't happend as much anymore.
I agree with Kara. You should get it checked out.

This happened to my dad a few years ago, and he went to a Cardiologist at St. Francis and they diagnosed it as Arythmia. Basically, the electricity in his heart was not going to the right "outlets" He had a minor procedure in the hospital & was back home in 2 days. He has not had the problem since.
I would make an appt with a cardiologist to get checked out. It could also just be stress or anxiety. It happens to me sometims,and my doc says it is because of anxiety.

Happens to me every month when AF is about to make her arrival. You may want to read this. For me it's all hormones.

This happens to me, I have MVP, nothing really you can do for it...for me, comes on w/ anxiety, stress and I take a anti-anxiety medication to stop my heart from racing as once i feel it racing, i panic  I agree, it comes on randomly, middle of meetings, just sitting watching tv, depends what is going on in my life at the time.

I have that and mine was diagnosed as stress-related SVT.
My heart just races some times.
I had to be monitored when pregnant, but other than that it's under control.

Thanks everyone! It probably is stress-sounds about right! My eye lids used to twitch and that stopped eventually so hopefully this will too. I will stop by a doctor soon to double check though.

This is similar to what I have but so far it is not severe enough for me to need a procedure. I started to feel it when I was pregnant. I am on medication for it but I now only need a very low dose. If it is just a minor discomfort, you might not opt for medication or a procedure. I was feeling faint, dizzy and out of breath. It got to a point where I was safer taking something to control it. I have noticed that sudden temperature changes can bring it on, especially stepping out into the heat in summer.

Could be MVP( I have the same thing and I have MVP) or anything else. You should see a cardiologist just in case.

I also get it when I eat anything with msg in it. Sometimes it feels like someone is playing the bongos inside my chest. I've been checked out by a cardiologist and have nothing heart-related wrong. I also notice it more toward the end of my cycle, which someone else mentioned. Scary, but nothing to worry about once you get checked out.

could be dehydration also. make sure you're drinking lots of water and skipping sugary drinks. go to the doctor though if its lasting for more than a few minutes. you don't want to go into SVT and have to be shocked!!!

Same exact situation here! I would get it checked out to calm your nerves.
