another post - how do you handle?
How do you handle a compliment to your SS (or SD) about "what a nice/cute/polite/whatever son you have?" I usually just say thanks and move on. But sometimes the person wants to keep talking (once it was -- when are you going to have your second child? Do you want a girl this time?) and last night it was people near us at dinner who kept going on and on how much SS looked like me, etc. and eventually it gets really awkward.

This hasn't happened to us but one time at a christmas party for FFIL and FFILs boss kept going on and on about how much we looked alike - I didnt want to be rude since it was FFILs boss - we just 'had to run to the bathroom real quick' and avoided him the rest of the time..

Re: another post - how do you handle?
Something similiar happened to me recently when I was at my SS's school. I was communicating with one of his teachers via email and signing it with my last name which is the same as SS's (obviously) so when we met he just assumed that SS was my son. So he kept on about how he's improving and how I should be proud of him and he kept calling him my son in front of SS and I wasn't sure if this was offensive towards BM. SS never corrected him but he doesn't call me mom so, after a few times I corrected the teacher and said that I've been very lucky with my STEP SON.
No one would ever said that we look alike!!!

I've actually gotten...."Ohhhhh she looks just like you !!" also...Depending on what the comment is, and who the person is saying it (like if its someone standing in line ar a store that I'll never see again) or if its a new neighbor I will see again for example, would determine what my response is...

Strangely, SD and I do look very much alike. Most times, people assume we are sisters
hahahhaha but really, we just start laughing like crazy and play along. I am very blessed with them

Re: another post - how do you handle?
I don't think anything of it when a stranger refers to me as mom in front of DD, as long as it doesn't bother her then I'm fine with it. We've explained to her that it's going to happen from time to time and that it's not a big deal, she understands that I'm not trying to BE her mom.
I have to laugh though when people say that she looks like me, because she's a spitting image of DH and while she's taken on some of my personality traits I obviously had nothing to do with her appearance!!
ETA: As for getting compliments, if DD and I are out alone I'll just say thank you and then pass the compliment along to DH the next time I see him.

Re: another post - how do you handle?
I always correct them because biologically he is not my son. But to add, I never get the "Oh he look just like you.." cuz I am latina and my SS is a "white boy"
But in all honestly, I always let ppl know he isnt mine the same way when I am with me nieces and ppl say they look like me - I thank them for the compliment!
