It's also frustrating from a Yankee fan perspective. Being an LI board, the majority of you peeps that are at least active on this board are Mets fans.

not really feelin baseball yet - the two met collapses, this whole baseball gone corporate thing, and the steroid issue has taken something away from me
getting pumped for the NFL draft though

i know alot of people will classify me as less than a hardcore Met fan, or a fair weather fan, or whatever, but baseball as a whole has really soured for me.
The collapses are one thing - I can still follow the team, but it's very hard to get emotionally charged when they have a history of doing a nosedive when it counts.
The big thing for me is this whole baseball/corporate transition - which I guess has always been there, but now it's really evident, between the Mets and the Yankees hiking prices, requiring bigger commitments, and basically making it more difficult for the hardcore fan to continue going on a regular basis.
And then, when you add in the steroid thing, you ask yourself, why am I going to go the extra mile when the organization clearly is catering to the corporations, to pay top dollar to watch a sport ridden with guys who are taking performance enhancing substances.
That's just my take. I still enjoy it, but it has become #2 on my interest-meter, with football being #1.
Of course, that's not to say football doesn't have its own problems doing the same stuff, but it's such a short season, you can't help but get pumped when it starts up. Especially since it coincides with nice stuff such as the fall, and holidays.

Don, i totally get what you are saying..
on some levels i feel the same way..
now the first point you mentioned about the team collapsing and the heartache..etc.. i will always follow them no matter what.. they are my team.. i am obsessed
2nd.. i cant agree with you more about the corporate ordeal that is going on .. and i feel the same way about hockey and the islanders.. its so expensive to go to any game!! and DH and I had to buy friggin 15 games just to go to opening day! and we normally would never do that.. but it was a gift for each other.. but regardless.. it shouldnt have to be that way! and with even spending all the money we did on that package.. we are the 3rd to LAST row in the stadium.. its terrible !!
and that is why i got so angry about the whole opening day ordeal and how they didnt even make that into a BIG DEAL  that is just insane, and it forced me to get the st. johns tickets just so i can be the first one there.. so in all reality i didnt even NEED to buy that package !
and i HATE that us hardcore everday fans can't enjoy a GREAT field level seat without paying a ridiculous amount of money.. its insane!!
lucky for you, you love the NFL.. and so do i , but baseball is always my #1.. so i guess its just easier for you to be angry.. i feel i have no choice.. cause the islanders make me even MORE angry.. they SUCK and its still expensive to sit in a good seat

Don I totally get it. I felt the same way in '94 when they went on strike and there was no post season. I swore I was done, would never go to a game and put money in their pockets but after my daughter was born and was old enough, she showed an interest and that's what brought me back.
Do all those things bother me just as much as you, you bet but, the experience and the memories with my kid mean so much that I'll suc k it up.
now i have to report this thread and have it moved to parenting!
i get you Kevin, but at the rate the Mets are going, I won't even be able to share those memories with my kids unless I take out a second mortgage
Can you imagine what it costs a family of four for four tickets, food/drink and souveniers? That's like a $200 day right there.
