Anxiety Help Please (long but please read)
Fo the past 15 years or so I have suffered from panic disorder. I have been on paxil and effexor (the lowest doses available) on and off. The meds help a lot. Problem is you can't take the meds if you are pregnant and dh and I are going to be ttc late this summer.
Anyway, I stopped the effexor this past Christmas and have been fine but last week I went to Dominivan Republic with some of my girls and I guess I was nervous about being in another country without my family and I had a panic attack. Now since that one I am getting them more often again.
I do not want to be on meds anymore but I am looking for a behavior therapist that can teach how to control my symptoms of this disorder.
DOes anyone know of a good dr. for my problem? I would love to see someone who has been reffered to me. btw I am in suffolk county
TIA

Just so you know there are meds you can take while pregnant. I'm on Celexa, 20mg. I have to ween off of it in the last trimester though. I used to take Xanex as well but that's a no no while pregnant.
WOw, really, that is good to know. DId you get your prescription from your general practitioner or from a psychiatrist?
I am trying to find a dr that can work with me and also prescribe meds if needed.
Do you feel any side effects from that particular medication?

Talk with a psychiatrist about meds and pregnancy. There are ones that have long standing research.
I will be taking meds if/when I get pregnant and some of these meds are pretty scary on paper. In clinical experience it's much more favorable.
I have a wonderful therapist I can recommend in Massapequa if you want.
Feel better.

there is a medication you CAN take while pg and ttc - for the life of me i can't remember it....it's NOT paxil (i had a horrible time detoxing from that medication).... speak to your doc about that!!!!
in my experience, it would be good for you to see a 'cognitive behavior therapist'....who can try and alter your way of thinking....show you to see things differently. I was with one for a short period of time and i like to think i did get a little better!!!!
