Re: Bruised Tail Bone
Doesn't sound like a bruised tailbone. It sounds like something else.
Have you considered an x-ray or a trip to the chiro?

Re: Bruised Tail Bone
This happened to me over 6 years ago on a flight back from New Orleans...I sat down too long...didn't get up. Other than that, I didn't fall either...
My tailbone has NEVER been the same again.
I went for xrays, catscans, etc...nothing wrong. I even had two cortisone injections in the joint space...no good.
Only thing that helps is sitting on a cushion with a tailbone cutout and limiting what surfaces I sit on.
I hate to say it...but more often than not, tailbones are known for not healing right. I am sorry you are in pain and I feel your agony. I also developed sciatica after that, from sitting weird to avoid tailbone pain. I will post a link to the cushion I use...it's my lifesaver.

Thank you for your reply, but that saddens me.. I can't deal with this forever...
Here's my question though.. did it hurt you when you flexed your "cheek"? That hurts me.. which makes me think MAYBE it's a muscle issue and not the bone itself?
This SUX!!!!!!

Re: Bruised Tail Bone
I don't know what it could be, but my mom fell down her stairs in December and she BROKE her tailbone. She could not sit straight for months. The doctor said there was nothing she could do, it needed to heal on its own.
She did find that sitting on DS's boppy pillow helped alleviate the pressure, so we bought her one of her own.
Feel better!

That's exactly when I would feel it,when I would flex. Or sit...or even bend my head forward while standing.
The tailbone is held in place by muscle....so when you tighten the muscle, often the pain will increase b/c it's pulling the tailbone. I would sometimes press on the muscle to relieve the pain, or ask DH to massage it. (he doesnt mind, lol).
I have to say now...years later, it only bothers me ALOT when I sit on too hard or too soft of a surface, or just too long. But to be honest, I have a lot of medical issues and the tailbone is the most painful and annoying one.
I know a few other people that injured theirs someway or another, and many say it never went back to normal.

Re: Bruised Tail Bone
Thank you all so much for your replies... I have a new theory...
I have terribly flat feet and wear probably the worst shoes for it. lately the bottom of my left foot has been bothering me a lot.. almost like a pulling of a tendion.
My left butt cheek (lol) hurts more than the right. I am thinking this MAY be the cause of the issue...
Anyway, I have an appointment with my foot Dr next Tuesday... hopefully he tells me my shoes are to blame..

I hope it's just that. There are so many things that can go wrong from your foot to your azz. Good luck and I'm sorry you are hurting.
There is a sacro area in the lower back kind of in the back hip area that can get inflamed for a number of reasons.
There's the sciatic nerve..there are tendons..it's crazy back there.
Bad shoes can definitely affect any part of your back. An orthopedist can assess you better than a podiatrist.

But then I'd have to go to a podiatrist for my feet no? Or could an orthopedist handle that too?
My regular Internist specialises in Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine.. you think I should just go to him?

Oh yeah, don't go to the podiatrist. I would opt for any doc that is an orthopedist or sports med specialist first. You may end up going to the podiatrist too but that would be my first stop. He may even refer you for some x-rays etc..
