Re: devleopmental/behavioral doctors

It took almost a year for an appt. with the person we saw. Unfortunately that's pretty much the norm I think. Chat Icon Have you contacted Early Intervention?

Re: devleopmental/behavioral doctors

thank you - from what i can tell, you are right, this is the normal time frame - i guess they are so backed up with referrals?!? I don't want to wait, but am realizing that I must...hopefully I can put myself on a cancellation list or something....

I am waiting for my CPSE meeting with EI to find out what they speech, spec ed, ot and pt wrote in their reports.

Re: devleopmental/behavioral doctors

if you think there is an issue such as autism, you can also see a neurologist, and there are plenty of them to choose from. it doesn't have to be a dev. ped. if you want to try for a neuroligist, i can get the list of people she saw for her son. she's got at least 4 or 5 of them she has used over the last couple of years.

when i saw the ENT he suggested a development/behavior or a neurologist and i wasnt sure which one i would need - i haven't called any neurologists yet, but would appreciate any recommendations to see if they can address my concerns.

Re: devleopmental/behavioral doctors

October seems about the norm to me. We did get a quick appt. with Dr. Jennifer Cross in Manhattan, she does not take ins. though, the appt. is $500.00. She was a very good doctor though, worth the money I think.

We waited about a year to see Marci Silverman from Good Sam. She was also very nice.

We also saw Dr. Scherzer in Riverhead... He was terrible! I wouldn't take my child back to him if he paid me.

As for a neurologist, we saw Dr. Xai from Stonybrook. He was just a waste of time honestly. I've heard Dr. "D" From Good Sam is a really good neurologist though.

Personally, I think the most thorough and accurate testing my son received was from Psychologist Chris Smith from the Marion Salomon agency, through EI. We waited about a month for his appt. but he was well worth it.

I hope that helps. As you can see we have been to quite a few doctors. The best advice I can give to you is never listen to anyone who does not do formal testing on your child, meaning an ADOS or CARS test. I made that mistake, which is why I have been to so many doctors.

Good Luck!

Re: devleopmental/behavioral doctors

Dr. D is good, but the wait for her is pretty long too.

Stay far away from Silverman. She takes insurance, but she isn't worth the aggravation. She is nice, but flakey, forgets what is discussed, sent me the wrong RX, and I STILL haven't gotten the results from blood work for Fragile X from OCTOBER. She is awful and I've heard that a lot from other people too.

I think EI will be your quickest bet so I would go ahead and request a psych. evaluation through them, and then compare with what your own provider determines in the future.

I second that! Dr Silverman was a nightmare!!!! She was 2 hours late and was out of it. She was sloppy, disorganized and a total waste of time.

I would go to a Neuro and wait for the Schneider's appt.

I'd highly recommend Hilary Gomes - whe's a neuropsychologist in Port Jefferson. Very compassionate, knowledgable and thorough. Her office is in the Divinci Center 631-848-8591

Re: devleopmental/behavioral doctors

my friend used rami grossman. hes not warm and fuzzy as far as bedside manner but he tales insurance and is a lace to start. she felt he did a good job diagnosing her son, even if he was not warm and fuzzy.

i saw dr. bregman through thr fay j linder autism center affiliated with schneider's for my son. but he doesnt take insurance, the twests were done through ei, so they paid for it. i liked him. not sure hw long his waits are now though.

i'll have to get the other names. those are the 2 i know off the top of my head.
