EI Evals are back...now what?!?

Ok, since I don't have much experience with the process, I'm turning to you - as you've all been so warm, welcoming and informative.

I took my son for his vision/hearing tests - no problems there

The evals state that he qualifies for OT, Speech and Spec. Ed. They mention sensory integration issues a lot. I am awaiting paperwork from shneiders to get my son seen by a ped. develop. doc

I spoke with my EI coordinator today and she asked if I wanted home based or site based therapy...I wasn't sure what to answer. Ideally, I'd like to see what they do with him so that I can imitate and continue his therapy with him, however he may get more help from being at a center all day or 1/2 (however it works). I'm a teacher so i'll be home for the summer - she mentioned some sites have an age limit - beginning at 2 and he's only 18 mos

so....do i do some at home then ask to transition to a place? do they even do that? do i start at a place close to where i live and just drive out there in the summer?

any suggestions? i want to give my son the best and need to make an infomred decision. thank you!

You can definately start with home-based services and switch to center based services when he is old enough or when you are ready. If you will be home for the summer, it may be nice to start him with the therapies at home so you can get an idea of what everybody is working on. A lot of the kids that I work with usually stay home until 21/2-3 year mark but it is completely up to you! Good luck with your decision!

I also agree, start home based for the summer and see how he progresses, and you can start looking at center based centers in your area and see where you want to go from there.
My son started at home and in September we put him in a center and LOVE it, because he gets more there and he is around other children.Chat Icon

we have been doing home based since he was 15 months old and come sept we will be doing center based half day & home based the other half...

since you are home during the summer i would def start out with home based
