From what I've been told it hits you like a ton of bricks. Is that accurate? Or does it start out with a cold for a few days and than turn into the fever, cough, etc.?

No the flu comes on suddenly - if you have cold symptoms (cough, runny nose, congestion, even a fever) for a few days it is more likely and gets worse it is probably a cold, virus other than the flu or an infection like bronchitis or sinus infection. You will KNOW when you have the flu - you will feel like you got hit by a bus and pretty quickly too and have a pretty solid fever.

Exactly. You feel as though you can't get out of bed. You'd rather pee the bed than even attempt to get out. Your entire body aches. Muscles that you didn't know you had ache..

I had the flu in January. On Thursday I started not feeling well and on Friday I had a 104-degree fever.

putting on clothing hurts. you don't even want to think about showering. walking? HAH!
plus you might have a dry cough that keeps you up at night - tylenol with codeine worked WONDERS for me.
