Teachers, what were your favorite end-of-the-year gifts?

I'm actually a teacher myself but haven't taught in a few years and can't remember squat since becoming a stay-at-home mom. Chat Icon

I am the room parent in my daughter's class, and am collecting money for a class gift. We can only collect $5 per kid, and only about half the class participates, so I don't have much to work with. Chat Icon

I would also like to MAKE something from the class and came across these....are they lame? Which one do you like better, or would I be wasting my time/money with something like this:

Re: Teachers, what were your favorite end-of-the-year gifts?

Hey Melissa!

Honestly, I don't keep any of the "things" that the kids give me, unless I can work it into the decor of my house. The things you posted are cute, but what would the teacher do with them?

I LOVE getting gift cards (Target, Starbucks) and nice letters/cards from the students and parents. I DO keep all of the cards and stuff I get from them - I have a file in our office filled with letters and cards and stuff.

Hope this helped a bit!

ITA with gift cards.. to starbucks, a restaurant.. something the teacher can treat herself with. even so many of the "things" are cute, they just end up collectiing dust. although you should definitely have the kids all sign a card or something, so she has a memory of that class...

Definitely a gift card and a card made by the kids. I wind up getting rid of a lot of the gifts the kids get me because I don't have the space for it.

Hi! Chat Icon

I think I explained things wrong. LOL.

I am definitely getting a gift card for the teacher.

**But with my own money, from the whole class, I would like to MAKE something as well.**

I thought the platter was kinda cute. It's something she can reuse, like if she brings cookies or muffins to school for a teacher breakfast or something...

In that case, I think the platter is a great idea! Chat Icon

Gift Cards are soooo helpful! For some stores, I'm able to buy more stuff for my class. With others, I buy myself clothes for the first week of school.

As for the other gift, I think the platter is SUPER cute. But I also love the pot of flowers. I say that b/c I do the picture flowers for mother's day and it comes out REALLY cute!

Thanks for your input everyone! Chat Icon

I also thought of making a small flip book from the class...I would make a different page for each student, and they would say things like, "Mrs. G is special to me because _____," and "My favorite day of school was when we _____" ....etc (you get the idea)

this is a really cute idea! something not too big that she can keep and look back on in a few years- it will be cute for the kids to wite it in their own words. and it probably won't cost a ton of money to do either! i think this with a gift card would be perfect!
