Seperating Twins into Seperate Bedrooms? Anyone?

My boys are almost 3 and have slept in the same room since they were born. Now they have never really gone right to sleep...talked to each other, read a book, played...but now I am having an issue that when one gets up (or if he has not gone to bed yet) and the other is still sleeping they get out of bed and jump on top of the other one and start saying get up, get up. My DH and I go up a number of times to seperate them and put them back into their beds and usually they are up in their bedroom for an hour or two before going to bed (we put them to sleep at 8PM). I don't have too many others comparisons to see how other kids are, but my nephews at their age were put to bed and they went to sleep.

I am literally ready to split them into seperate bedrooms. I feel bad about it because they really enjoy being together, but I really don't know what else to do.

ANyone go through something like this??

Do they still nap? When my kids were outgrowing ther nap we found that they were upstairs awake for a while before falling asleep at night. Once we stopped the nap they went to bed at 8:00 and very quickly. If one is asleep and the other won't fall asleep we try either taking one out of the room for a few mintues or staying in the room with them unttil they fall asleep. Not ideal but it has helped. Right now they will still sleep in the same bed, so I can't even imagine seperating them, I think they would flip.

Mine don't go to sleep right away either - we put them to bed at 8:00 and i can hear them talking and playing in there - i usually just yell thru the door at them (well dd, she is the one who always instigates everything!) a few times and they eventually settle down. This goes on for an hour at the most, then it gets quiet and i assume they are sleeping!

My twins are boy/girl and have always shared a room - i couldn't imagine seperating them at this point.

We are seperating them in a month or two..... I am very nervous.

I don't have twins, but I'll answer anyway.

Any change you are looking to make or a habit you're looking to break, the earlier it's done the better.

If you plan to separate them, it will not lessen the bond they have. I have a twin sister & know that the only thing having a shared room was good for was when you were fighting, told you were not allowed to talk to each other & had to sit on separate beds. Eventually the urge to play overcomes them & they wind up making up. Other than that, we split our room many ways down the middle with tape.

Another suggestion is what I startd to do during sleepovers: Explain you're going to stay there to make sure there is no talking. Then take a book in with you & read until they're sleeping. If they're wiped out, it shouldn't take very long & you get some relaxing time.

Thanks ladies. They def don't need a nap anymore, except some days. Some days they go to sleep pretty quickly, other days they are up till 10 or 11 at night.

The other issue is one does not need as much sleep as the other so when he gets up at 6:30 he goes over to the other bed and says wake up Jack, wake up Jack. Until he finally does.

I go back and forth about splitting them up, so I am going to wait it out another month or so....but we shall see.
