need advice- UPDATED
so, as some of you may already know, i was excessed last friday.
i currently teach 4th (for five years) at a well developed/outstanding A rated public school in a decent neighborhood in Queens.
I have been interviewing all week and it seems like I will be offered the following positions.
WWYD?
1- first grade at a small core knowledge school in a shady neighborhood. admin seems really nice and supportive
2- fourth grade at a huge school in the same neighborhood for a very difficult principal/ supportive aps
or wait it out for openings at three other local schools, solid and supportive admin- or for $$ to come back in which case i wont get excessed after all.
soooo confused!!!!
TIA
so.. i went on three interviews and was offered three jobs! i wound up taking the 4th grade position, although i was very interested in changing grades to first, the first grade position was changed to third and the other position i was offered was K.
thanks you your advice and good luck to anyone else looking!
sooo

Re: need advice
I personally would probably either take the first grade one or wait for a new position to come in. When administrators are difficult, it really makes your job difficult. JMO though.

Re: need advice
i know. i work for a "difficult" administrator now (although I love working for her and dont have any problems) but from what I have heard, this other admin is much harder to work for. after five years in the system, i am not really interested in jumping from the pan into the fire, so to speak.
thanks for your advice!

Re: need advice
i might wait it out (your third choice) depending on when the other schools want to know what your plans are. between the two ffoers i would go with #2. it's the grade level you've been teaching for awhile... moving grade levesl is so hard... it's like being a first year teacher all over again getting all new materials, resources, learning the curriculum, etc. also, even though the principal may be blah, the APs are supportive and you'll deal more with them then the principal. just my thoughts...

Re: need advice
I would wait and see if you don't have to give anyone answers right now.
I work for a very DIFFICULT principal with supportive AP's and though they buffer a lot the stress level can be ridiculous. Many people are actually looking to leave because of him. He has only been here one year and has completely changed the culture of the school.

Re: need advice
if you're excessed, you're still getting paid--I'd hold out for a position that you want; although, the first grade position doesn't sound so bad
