Male infertility - microsurgery

My DH has to have some sort of microsurgery to remove a blockage in the tube the sperm comes through. Did anyone's DH go through this? Anyone hear of any success stories?

Re: Male infertility - microsurgery

Surgery for varicocele can help but the results won't be seen for about 6-9 months. Depending on your dh's sperm count, that would determine if the surgery is worth having.

The surgery can also cause scar tissue which could make the sperm count less than what it is.

Many people just opt to have IVF using ICSI, when sperm count is an issue.

A great book to read is How to Get Pregnant by Dr. Silber,.....he writes a lot about male factor issues.

There have been a few posts recently about this....let me see if I can bump one.http://www.lifamilies.com/chat/topic.aspx?ID=41654

Re: Male infertility - microsurgery

Make sure he sees a GOOD urologist too. There are sooo many and there are some that specialize in male infertility....

It is a common surgery for them though and theres not a big risk involved. The scar tissue is NOT a common thing from what I have researched.

And yes IVF is an option, but weigh all options. If this is your main Fertility issue the surgery can basically have a great chance of erasing that problem and you can conceive naturally and not have to opt for IVF for every child you may want to have...

the surgery also on a downside doesnt guarentee results. The current stats are an "infertile" couple will have a 30-50% chance of conceiving naturally after surgery.

The severity of your husbands SA should make the final decision for you.

If its not that severe, the surgery is your best and cheapest option. If indeed his SA shows a severe male factor to begin with, then the chances for the surgery being successful are less and may not be worth it at all...

This is 100% correct. I have said before, my BIL has this problem and because of the healing period and chance of scar tissure they ended up doing IVF and got PG.
