When did you FINALLY get confident in being a teacher?
Ok so I'm going to say that in September I will be going into my 3rd year as a teacher. My first year was really rough (I was bumped and moved around so much within the school in the City) and my second year was equally tough (i had a combo class 2/3 grade but private school). So next year I was told i'm moving to K. At first I was scared, I told my director K scares me because I'm not certified for K (1-6 only) and my dream was always to be a 5th grade teacher. Well now that I've had about a week to let the info sit, i'm getting highly excited about it, began preparing already and really finally feeling like i'm getting the groove of this teaching thing. I know it takes expereince to feel this way, but I had my doubts along the journey.
So I wanted to ask when did you finally get comfortable with being a teacher and find your groove?

Honestly, I would have to say my 3rd year. But each year it gets better and I am more confident.

When I first started teaching, I was a classroom teacher, and I was just starting to feel good about it at the end of the third year. Then I switched to a different position (I am a specialist, I have a pull-out program, and I work in three different schools). It was a tough adjustment. I am at the end of my third year in this position, and am feeling much more "in the groove". I am actually looking forward to next year (more than usual) for that reason.

I guess around year 3. Year 1, I was thrown in the class 2 months in. Year 2 was a new grade. Year 3 was 3 years in the school, 2 years on the grade and also the sweetest class ever!

about year 3 (of the same grade level, 4th year teaching). . . .it just felt right then. i stressed so much less and i had my curriculum and a lot of resources and all that down by then.

Im hoping after my third year which will be next year 2010. I had two really ROUGH years but I definately grew as a teacher.
