Re: no jobs!!!!!!!!
It's tough! Hang in there. I got my social studies job in mid August. People decide to take leaves etc through out the summer.
Good luck

Re: no jobs!!!!!!!!
honestly, i don't know anyone who has been hired in the last few years without experience and right out of school. all of them subbed/TAed/did leave replacements for at least 2 years before they broke into the system. my sister teaches HS social studies on LI and said the market is flooded with people trying to get SS jobs.
you may have to look into doing that to get your feet in the door. good luck!

Re: no jobs!!!!!!!!
I've been teaching at a LI district for 12 years now and from what I've expierenced and seen my district does not interview (unless really sure they have a bunch of spots to fill) until August. The economy sux this year and we had to let go teachers. However (this doesn't help you too much at my elementary level- but this can be true for many districts and subject areas) there are several teachers going out on maternity leave in Sept that they will interview for in Aug. Good luck and don't give up hope!

Re: no jobs!!!!!!!!
If I thought things were bad before, they are really bad now. I had to take a job in a private school so I had something.
I know they are not the greatest, but charter schools are always hiring.
Good Luck and hang in there.

Re: no jobs!!!!!!!!
If I were you I would also apply for TA jobs. They are a foot in the door and you may get health benefits.
Also look into charter schools and private/Catholic schools.
NYC currently has a hiring freeze.
